Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

So I got a little ahead of myself on Sunday Night, I am now doing Flume, yes that huge 21 year old Sydney producer tonight. Therefore the full review will be up here tomorrow and today we go back to basics with the Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

The rest of the week looks like this (at this moment):

Wednesday - FLUME

Thursday - Throwback Thursday, what lost hit will we remember?
Friday - The Friday Dance OFF, it's back and after a full week of work, FML, get on the floor
Saturday - Saturday Soundtrack is back

Sunday - a FRESH Countdown will be delivered

So now that, that's out of the way onto today's tune:

So those boys from the sunny Gold Coast are back, and this time it's 90's overload on this tune, it's called "Feel" and if you have four minutes today YouTube the clip, it's a bit of fun.  In the meantime here is the audio below for you to feat your ears on:

Welcome to May (almost) and here is a hit to get you moving on your Tuesday!

Until tomorrow's big Flume review.....

Super Producers Part Three - Diplo

As over on my other piece art Randy Andy's Weak in Review I was going to unveil the third piece in my Super Producers series. A series which is a little irregular but it gets up from time to time.  So quickly let's look back at some producing gems from 2012:

FLUME

CALVIN HARRIS

Now part three, it's another international superstar, DIPLO!

At 34, Thomas Wesley Pentz or better known as Diplo, has shaped hits for M.I.A, Beyonce, No Doubt, Snoop Dogg (Snoop Lion), Robyn, Nicola Roberts (Girls Aloud) & many more. His latest album offering the second from Major Lazer is easily one of the best records of 2013. The guest list is like a night at the Grammy's, he has everyone from Bruno Mars to indie superstars such as Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors.

The album "Free the Universe" is superb from Bruno Mar's super naughty "Bubble Butt" hit to the BIG breakthrough chilled single "Get Free" to the rocker of "Jah No Partial" it's got something for everyone. I am super in love with this record, after leaving Switch behind and taking the album and MAjor Lazer crown for himself, he has done no wrong.

Apart from Major Lazer, Diplo is music royalty last year he showed us how to "Express Yourself" and worked with so many stars from big to small to give them that killer production.

So without further ado let's just let the music speak for this truly super producer and let's hope I get my act together and give another bedroom banger the spotlight before too long.

So get dancing, DIPLO, a total SUPER PRODUCER, Part Four coming soon....

Saturday Soundtrack {SIA}

So SIA is back on the scene, after saying she was giving it all away and sticking to song writing (which she does extremely well) but now thanks to the Great Gatsby soundtrack a new song has surfaced and apparently a full length album is on it's way too.

SIA's 2010 album "We Are Born" was a massive breakthrough album and here is hoping her next album continues to get her the attention she deserves. After collaborations with The Hilltop Hoods, Flo-Rida & David Guetta, SIA is everywhere!

Until next Saturday, there is your soundtrack for the day's housework, homework or just plain chilling, it's cold out, the after Anzac Day rush has gone and now it's time to chill.

Tomorrow maybe something else from the Great Gatsby soundtrack is a hit in a new Countdown.

Friday Dance Off!

It's Friday night and if your not off on a SUPER long weekend after a Thursday Anzac Day holiday, let's dance to this late 90's hit together:

This song was so killer in the late 90's and I'm not going to lie I also loved Amiel's solo career.

So with a big bass line and a super catchy chorus, it's time for some Addicted to Bass.

It's the weekend, Whoo!

Throwback Thursday!

Lest we Forget on Anzac Day & lest we forget an Australian iconic band, it's ESKIMO JOE today on this very Anzac Day edition of Throwback Thursday.

Eskimo Joe have had local hits for years, I still remember in 1998 hearing "Sweater" for the first time and falling in love with their fun pop music. They backed up this with "Turn Up Your Stereo" & the equally exciting "Ruby Wednesday", 5 albums were then released and the rest is so called history.

So on this Throwback Thursday history moment I choose to focus on one of their biggest hits, the title track to their 2006 album "Black Fingernails, Red Wine".

It's Aussie stadium rock at it's best and let's hope their sixth album brings another big hit like this baby.

It's Anzac Day and a day we should remember great Australian tunes, so tomorrow on the Friday Dance Off are you ready for an Australian Dance off!

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

Today is more like a Saturday Soundtrack as we prepare for the launch of the new album from the one and the only Rudimental, they have smashed the charts with "Feel the Love" & "Not Giving In", they were all over the radio with "Hell Could Freeze" and "Spoons" and now with the "Waiting all Night" EP they have given us a few extra tastes of what the album "Home" is going to sound like. And let me tell you, it's gonna be HUGE!

The new "Waiting all Night" EP features the killer title track (currently doing the rounds on my Countdown) as well as a few tidy remixes of the song:

Also featured a new track:

And a remix of a current track in the UK Top 75 "Right Here", remixed by the tidy Andy C:

If this is not enough Rudimental for one's Tuesday, please check out the below:

The album is due to drop (locally) May 3. So get ready for this Australia it's drum n bass at a large scale.

1 - Daft Punk - Get Lucky {Feat. Pharrell Williams}

Commentary - New music galore tonight with 25% of the songs either new or re entries (Rufus from Sydney "Take Me" @ 18 a re entry from a few weeks away) and the biggest news of all Daft Punk is back and killing it, with some help from Pharrell it's a bullet straight to Number One! Well done Daft Punk.

With a new album out soon Daft Punk are definitely ones to watch in the new release schedule, as are Empire of the Sun who are back with "Alive" and it's the highest Aussie new entry @ 17. Just beating Vance Joy with "Riptide" @ 19 and rounding of the hottest 20 tunes courtesy of iTunes and good music on the chart (violated by tonnes of the Voice singles - FML for the next 3 months) it's the UK number One Duke Dumont. It's disco, it's camp it's fun it's "Need U 100%"!

So that' the countdown for another week enjoy the rocking good tunes (rock probably not the best description as dance music is totally killing it right now) and here like last week is a new tune that just surfaced, it's my super producers right now collaborating with a star I love, ELIZA DOOLITTLE, it's new Disclosure outta the UK:

Saturday Soundtrack {Major Lazer}

Major Lazer AKA Diplo (last record Switch also lent a hand but this time around it's just Diplo, and a million and one friends and I kid you not) has released the second EPIC party album the follow up to 2009's Gun's Don't Kill People.... Lazers Do.

Their have been three singles from the album thus far and let's take a listen to them as part of Soundtrack Saturday (and it's a wet one):

So the album just features guest after guest, from Bruno Mars (on the awesome track "Bubble Butt"), Shaggy (yes "It Wasn't Me" man), Santigold, Wynter Gordon, Peaches & Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend.

So the latest album "Free the Universe" a bit of a party winner, so saddle up this Winter and pop on some fun stuff by Major Lazer and friends and get down, dirty and shake those bubble butts!

Friday DOUBLE Dance Off!

So it's a DOUBLE Friday Dance Off and I am just smitten over this first tune by Basement Jaxx, it is just oh so good! The visuals on this video, the tune itself, the Korean ladies behind the vocals, the Kenyan drumming, it's totally a match made in heaven and it's so good to have Basement Jaxx back on the radio and back on the scene. So without anymore rubbish, push your coffee table aside and cut a rug, this is Back 2 the Wild!

There has been a lot of hype/talk and playing of the new Daft Punk tune with the super awesome Pharrell but today in my double dance fest it's Azealia Banks and she is back angier than ever with the new tune "Yung Rapunxel". It's the first offical single from the massively hyped debut "Broke with Expensive Taste".  Let's have a look, visually this is full on, audio wise, it's an assualt on your ear drums, the beats are BIG, the vocals wild, so let's take a look/listen below:

Hope you enjoyed and you cut a serious rug.

Bring on the weekend.

Throwback Thursday!

Last week we went back to the 90's and this week we are just going to go back almost a decade. The year 2004, the album self titled, the song number one in Triple J's Hottest 100 for that year.

It's Franz Ferdinand the Scottish indie legends.

This song still continues to fill a dance floor, rock a DJ set or when played on the radio people still rush to turn the volume up.

Franz Ferdinand have been a little quiet of lately (according to their discography on Wikipedia) but I am sure album number four is on the way.

So tomorrow we will indeed head straight to the dance floor for the "Friday Night Dance Off!". Bookmark now get excited, it's almost the weekend.

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

They are back, after years of silence, Nick Littlemore going MIA for their tours and award ceremonies, Empire of the Sun have delivered their new single & it's titled "Alive".

Have a listen and let me know what you think?

I am uncertain right now about this one, but let me give it a few spins.  I was very excited about the Basement Jaxx tune I published with this week's belated countdown.  Unfortunately the old BLOG is having a tricky time at present.

But with all that Tuesday is about brining a tune, so enjoy this week's Tuesday Tune Day.

Teaming up with some matesMetrik & Kyza ShockOne gives us another "Lazerbeam". I know my co worker Lachie will
be thrilled as he totally loved "Chaos Theory" Jokes...

At 16 from Triple J's feature CD this week "Free the Universe" it's Watch Out For This (Bumaye) featuring heaps of Diplo's mates on this one. It's the highly anticipated follow up to their 2009 release Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do

Saturday Soundtrack {AlunaGeorge}

Like Haim last Saturday AlunaGeorge have been on my radar for a little bit now thanks to BBC DJ Annie Mac. In 2012 this group came to light with the hit "Your Drums, Your Love" and various other tracks, they took out the 2nd place in BBC's Sound of 2013 and reached number two on the UK charts with the Disclosure collaboration "White Noise".

With a debut album "Body Music" due July 1 2013, this is the year for this 90's RnB/high grade dance production value duo. Their latest tune "Attracting Flies" has received so much play on my IPOD and with Baauer (Harlem Shake fame) feeling the need to remix the song it seems they could even make it big in the USA.

Listening to music from Haim and AlunaGeorge you quickly realise that pop music is alive, well and intelligent. Albums, artists and tracks released from these artists are just so divine and with their current tunes doing the circuits I think AlunaGeorge are here to stay.

So have a listen below to this extremely talented London duo Aluna Francis & George Reid, just sublime.

Thanks for reading today and tomorrow it's time for a new countdown, will Macklemore & Ryan Lewis still be Number One? Three new entries will be revealed and reviewed.

Friday Night Dance Off!

Tonight it's Friday night and it's time to dance, so here is your Friday dance off! And to be honest I can not get enough of Jessie Ware and this new single is just divine, Imagine it was Us is so amazing, to say it's been on high rotation for me today is an understatement.

Not only is the song super killer but the video is just banging! Happy Friday and have a great weekend you private dancers,.

Throwback Thursday!

So can we go back to the 90's right now? I loved Ben Lee growing up and with all his recent Australian media performances/appearances for his upcoming album I reckon we go back to his 1998 third album "Breathing Tornado's" which was a massive hit back then.

So let's get ready to sing a long in 2013 to a 1998 hit which totally got robbed in Triple J's Hottest 100.

Here is Cigarettes will Kill You (true that):

  <

I always almost scream the lyrics to this tune, it was an anthem of my childhood, thanks Ben Lee, if you are interested in finding out more about his new album, his new website HERE is very informative and interactive, ace job Ben you moved from the 90's to now oh so well.

Countdown’s and Charts Worldwide {Well Australia and UK}

So on my Countdown this week there was one EPIC re entry and a killer new entry from Frank Ocean and Rufus respectively. I couldn’t share the audio cause Google blog thing was being random and poo basically but it’s all fixed so let’s take a listen collectively together now:

 Rufus – Take Me

 Frank Ocean – Lost

Also on the countdown this week Rudimental continued their assault on the pre album promotion train. Their debut is about to drop and after “Feel the Love”, “Not Giving In” and “Hell Could Freeze” to say this album is anticipated by the drum and base community is an understatement.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis continue to just smash it with 30% of the top 10 belonging to them, KILLER! Now over to the UK and they have such great taste there, Duke Dumont’s killer single “Need U” featuring A-M-E has rocketed to the top @ #1, mega debut, mega good feeling song, it’s on a huge rotation on my IPOD at present. Elsewhere the Disclosure/AlunaGeorge collaboration continues to make more than just some “White Noise” @ number 14, while AlunaGeorge on their own single “Attracting Flies” has a nice debut @ Number 51. My Saturday Soundtrack kids Haim move up a bundle of spots to #30 with their latest anthem “Falling”, I seriously can’t get that song outta my head, Duke Dumont has also done a rather tidy remix of that tune too.

Aussie lady Iggy Azalea is making waves with her single “Work” pre Movement festival, I personally think her name is too similar to Azealia Banks but whatever. So yeah it’s all happening over in the UK and I pretty much predict that unfortunately with the rise of the Voice (2 million viewers last night) on Australian TV again it looks like they will be set to get their dodgy singles back in the Australian charts, sad face. And after having a quick peek on iTunes my fears have been confirmed.

Oh Australia why can't we take lead from our mother land and be more like the UK adapting to cool new music, not shitty covers. I give up.

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

Last week I featured this gem from Jessie Ware (here is the cute as pie official music video):

and I still just love this tune, today I feature a tune that I only starting put on high rotation after a Glee episode, it's Tegan and Sara's most recent tune "Closer":

Tegan and Sara are about to embark on a little tour called Groovin the Moo around regional Australia (sold out in a few towns) and also do some sexy solo shows around the place.

If you have loved Tegan and Sara for as long as I have you will love the Greg Kurstin production on this number.  Their latest album "Heartthrob" has taken a few listens for me but the more I give it a go the more I like it.

So there is the second Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day, coming later commentary on this week's countdown and a look at countdowns here and abroad (UK only) until then, try getting this Tegan and Sara tune outta your head....

The xx

This weekend Sydney is lucky enough to have two nights of The xx in town. They play two sold out beyond sold out shows @ Sydney's Hordern Pavilion to around 11,000 happy punters. The punters at Saturday's nights show ranged from indie hipsters to older folk like myself who lay between Triple J and 702 Sydney, we (those above mentioned listeners) desperately need a new station catering to the older JJJ listeners. But anyway onto the gig, I missed the local boys Jagwar Ma who are creating waves in The xx home country and currently on the wireless with "The Throw".

So we stepped into the Hordern and found the place completely packed by some nice seats for the plus 30 I am saw me comfortable and ready for a night of fine indie pop. The xx did not disappoint, their set was littered with hits from their two albums xx & Coexist (one of my Randy Andy BLOG album of the year nods) and a really sweet as cover of club classics "Finally" by Kings of Tomorrow.

They opened with a solid set and kept chit chat to a minimum and really set the room alight with their chilled vibes, killer vocals and killer work from Jamie xx beyond the decks, percussion and more. My personal highlights were album favourites "Chained", "Reunion", "Fiction" and then the killer version of "Sunsets". The encore was a bit crap two songs but one of which the Hottest 100 favourite "Angels" which was just pure bliss.

Overall the concert was just completely sublime and the audience were completely in the palm of their hands, The xx have a very bright future ahead of them with a terrific album "Coexist" still doing the rounds and apparently work has commenced on album number three. "Islands" and "VCR" from their debut at the tail end of the set also went off a complete treat. I throughly enjoyed this concert and wish I was off to the gig again tonight, anyone going tonight you are in for a complete treat.

The xx, completely mesmerising 4.5 Stars, deducting half a star for the unnecessary encore. Related Media:

Saturday Soundtrack {HAIM}

From time to time on Saturday's when there is a track/artist I can't get out of my head I'm going to run a Saturday Soundtrack post and this week it's LA's coolest Haim. They took out the BBC's Sound Of 2013 list beating so much new talent for 2012/2013.

Their debut Forever was released in July last year and was an instant radio hit, "Don't Save Me" was a super catchy follow up and then came "Falling" which has been their latest tune which is rocking my socks. Duke Dumont (Need U 100%) has done a killer remix and this song is just so damn fine. I am in love with these three LA sisters plus the one drummer ring in Ms Dash Hutton.

The group is basically a marketing team's wet dream, they are so cute, super talented and if anyone can cross over from being indie to being a chart topper in 2013 it's these fine young ladies. So time for some related audio, if you don't want to push the coffee table aside and use a hair brush as a mic during these tunes there is clearly something wrong with you. Here is this Saturday's Soundtrack proudly brought to you by HAIM:

Cool huh? And to prove they are banging babes here they are:

Friday Night Dance Off!

Flashing off the Record has almost been here and today it is totally time to dance!

I love Missy Elliot and Friday is Missy day in my books. Tune in over the weekend for a full review of the xx at Sydney's truly delightful Hordern Pavilion, if your going see you there and Mummy Sharda, can't wait to see y'all. TGIF w/ Missy Elliot.

Throwback Thursday!

So on Thursday's pre weekend I think it's time to look back, remember a classic tune and embrace it's goodness. And today on Throwback Thursday it's time to go back to 2009 and remember how fantastic it was to have Little Birdy team up with Paul Kelly on Brother:

This tune was a radio hit for Little Birdy from their great little record "Confetti". Little Birdy never really had huge success in Australia but were big favourites on Triple J and "Beautiful to Me" from their first record "BigBigLove", they followed this up with "Hollywood" and then came "Confetti" featuring the above Throwback Thursday tune and "Summarize", "Hairdo" & "Stay Wild".

If you are wondering where Little Birdy are well in 2010 Katy Steele moved to New York and started work on a solo career, the band now appear to be on a bit of a break. But if your keen to check out what Katy is up to check out the below and you can also download this for free.

Until tomorrow hope youre enjoying me Flashing Off the Record.

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

Happy Day Two of Flashing off the Record, hope you enjoyed my Hello Welcome and now it's time for something I like to call Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day.

So here is today's tune:

OK so it was Disclosure who introduced me to the fine vocal chords of Jessie Ware, but damn this song is chilled, its killer and simply no filler.  From her debut album "Devotion"I only recently discovered this gem but seriously this song is so sweet and so smooth.

Jessie Ware for me is one of those artists who has slipped under the radar but I can see her second album blowing up Adele "21" style. Her voice is pure and uses only the best producers, when Disclosure turned "Running" into a club track it gave her a whole new life.

Jessie Ware you are super talented and my first Tight Ass Tuesday Tune.

Hello, Welcome

Well hello and welcome and thanks for joining me on my new venture, a thirty year old blogging about new music, past hits, music lists and leaving all the movies, theatre and the rest of it for dust, yes this blog is 100% music.

If you like my Randy Andy BLOG y'all gonna love this, I will be bringing it weekly with:

# The regular 20 Sunday Chart (plus commentary and today I will have a look at last night's tunes)
# Super Producers (From the Randy Andy BLOG, we have already looked at Calvin Harris and Flume, who will be next?)
# Flashing off the Records Album of the Year. Last year I saw it fit that Frank Oceans stunning solo debut took it out over at Randy Andy and I also found it impossible not to recognize Flume for his outstanding debut. So this year (2013) what album(s) will deserve a heap of love from me?
# My new releases reviews - from time to time
# General commentary on the music world.

So let's rewind to Easter Sunday and get an eye full of some of this weeks most popular tunes:

Rudimental have struck gold, their debut "Home" will be released next month (TBA - The album has been pushed back a number of times) and with three big singles and one killer tune with Angel Haze it looks like Rudimental could be this year's kings of dance (maybe after Disclosure, those boys R dope!), they debuted on the chart @ #20.

Also new this week was young Kiwi Lorde and the killer tune "Royals"from her "Love Club" EP, this is killer catchy and killer cool. Hit up Randy Andy now to stream these two tunes.

In the top ten saw monster hits from Flume, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis stealing two top spots, the Harlem Shake still hanging out in the top 10 & Calvin Harris showing his album 18 months has way more than 18 months shelf life.

For the full chart and older ones drop by here.

Stay tuned for another Super Producer coming your way (who will be next), Album of the Year Nominations (it's been a slow start to 2013 thus far, but things can only get better and with new releases from Charli XCX, Major Lazer, Yeah Yeah Yeahs & Owl Eyes on the way are you as excited as I am?) and finally to leave you with looking ahead @ the release schedule let's look at some of the biggest releases to come in future months:

This Friday Cold War Kids, James Blake & Wiley all release new discs, Wiley has had a number of dance floor hits thus far with his soon to be release "The Ascent", so look out for this floor filler.

From now till the end of April look out for new records from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Charli XCX, Owl Eyes, Phoenix, Kid Cudi & Ben Lee.

May we are going to finally get the debut from Rudimental "Home" (as discussed above), Vampire Weekend drop their third effort, Jinja Safari return & Laura Marling is going to blow our minds once again.

So until next time, thanks for stopping by and visiting the home of new music, classic albums and the new place where a total music nerd will be posting random stuff. Until then hope you all stuffed yourselves silly with Creme Eggs.
