The Week in New Music

Does Birds of Tokyo covering Kendrick Lamar sound weird? Well listen for yourself it actually works, well with a guest rapper of course (Mathas):

I seemed to have missed this one, but it's the latest from YesYou:

Illy is back and in a big way, here is his latest in this (so far) all Aussie new music love in:

Recent album of the year nominated album "Atlas" has seen "Tonight" get a lot of play this week and for really good reason, this song is pure smooth summer fun. Bring on the heat:

Recent visitor to this fine land Jake Bugg has a new track, take a listen:

For those dancefloor lovers here is a new slice of disco pop from DCUP:

And if you're interested Tina Arena also released a new song.... guess not like me who cares, Tina I think France is calling. Another week of great new music and tomorrow a look at the biggest 20 tunes of the week, John Newman, Haim, Lana Del Rey or someone new for number one? Lorde even? See you then....

Out on the Shelves.... NOW - Part 3

Wow another week another large round of BIG releases, this week his what hit the shelves and uploaded on iTunes:

Dizzee Rascal has a heap of guests on his new album and her is one of them on the latest single, it's Will.I.Am. It's called Something Really Bad and unfortunately the Will.I.Am bits are really bad. Maybe not Dizzee Rascal's best moment.

Cool kids Haim released their debut, it's POP magic and I've said it once, and I'll say it again they are a marketing wet dream, let's take a listen to the latest love song from Haim "The Wire":

Another much hyped album release is the debut for NZ superstar Lorde, her is her latest cut the iTunes chart topping single "Team":

Justin Timberlake also dropped the second part of his 20/20 Experience, I am more keen though on seeing his latest film "Runner Runner". Here is a listen to another cut from JT:

Finally Sydney boys and part time JJJ announcers Bluejuice also have this new tune:

Enjoy your weekend all!

Such a CLASSIC!

The weekend is almost upon us and maybe some more Album of the Year Nominations are on their way, it's a big day for releases tomorrow. Just saying.

Finally a Festival Good News Story...

Music Festivals are under the spotlight (AGAIN!) for dull line ups, cancellations, camping packages cancelled, pricing, changing the event entirely or just plain having a go at AJ from Soundwave. So yesterday it was with great delight to see the Laneway Festival line up.

What a breathe of fresh air this line up was, after the HalfBake line up on Friday and the news of the cancelled Harvest Festival Australia needed a reason to still care for music festivals, and I think this is it!

So let's look at the line up:

Adalita
Autre Ne Veut
Cashmere Cat
Cass McCombs
Chvrches
Cloud Control
Danny Brown
Daughter
Dick Diver
Drenge
Earl Sweatshirt
Four Tet
Frightened Rabbit
Haim**
Jagwar Ma
Jamie XX
King Krule
Kirin J Callinan
Kurt Vile
Lorde**
Mount Kimbie
MT Warning
Parquet Courts
Run The Jewels (EL-P & Killer Mike)
Savages
Scenic
The Growl
The Jezabels**
Unknown Mortal Orchestra**
Vance Joy
Warpaint
XXYYXX
Youth Lagoon

**Exclusive to Laneway: no sideshows

Fantastic! I am super proud to say Festival's might be back on the right track of you get the right artists on the bill. For too long Festival organisers have been missing the mark but this one spot on. The cool kids will be moist for artists like Haim, Jamie XX, Lorde, The Jezabels and more talent than you can poke a stick at.

Now all we have to do is wait till early 2014. Stay tuned for more about this overly exciting line up!

Icona Pop have had a huge journey with their track "I Love it!" and now it's time for an international album release "This Is...". Let's take a listen to another cut from the album below:

Will Kings of Leon ever return to the charts like "Sex on Fire" & "Use Somebody"? Maybe not but they are sure trying and today saw the release of their new album, here is the lead single from it, let me know you like their new direction or are they turning into One Direction:

It's been 20 years since Nirvana released "In Utero" so why not take a listen to the album in full as below:

Out on the Shelves.... NOW!

September is a HUGE month for new music and let's take a look at what music hit the stands yesterday:

Avicii's "True" finally dropped after a lot of anticipation, let's see if it smashes the charts like the single "Wake Me Up" did.

Jack Johnson released some more instant stoner hits and the Manic Street Preachers come back from the 90's. MGMT also came back onto the scene and hopefully it's not as random as their last release:

Janelle Monae has loads of guests on her new album and this track features Erykah Badu:

Placebo and Sebadoh should also appeal to the indie music fans out there and the Weeknd delivers a truly wonderful new release in "Kiss Land":

The Preatures

From Sydney, Australia these guys/girls could be the next BIG thing and after seeing them live at FBI Turns 10 event. They really know how to turn it on. We have all heard the hits "This Is How You Feel" & "Manic Baby", but it was older tunes as well like "Take a Card" & "Pale Rider" which has me tapping my toes.

Oh the sun oh the fun of last Sunday and The Preature's really do have a bright career, so happy to say I have seen this young and upcoming band live early on in their career, so let's take a listen to some selected hits:

There you go kids, happy Friday the 13th!

Album of the Year Nomination #4 - Rufus - Atlas

After three BIG albums it's time for the fourth! Yes let's look to Sydney for a group who has released a few great EP's and now their debut "Atlas" has become a popular album with dance music lovers.

I really respect this group, great singles came first, solid EP's and such a big debut with a great lead single in TAKE ME.

Grab the download above for free and dance the night away with the local remix by Cassian. After TAKE ME killed it, DESERT NIGHT which brought such smooth as silk production it took them to an international level:

So RUFUS, well done, you are Album of the Year Nomination number 4 and the very first Australian album for 2013.

It is so good to have such great local music coming out of literally your own backyard. And with an extremely full September release schedule look out another album may be up for the Album of the Year very soon.....
