Album of the Year Nomination #6 - Lorde - Pure Heroine

Another week another album of the year nod from me. Last week Haim won me over BIG time with their release "Days are Gone" and now it's time from a young lady from across the pond who is killing it worldwide:

"Royals" is clearly one of the biggest hits of 2013, it almost is overtaking Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" favourite status for the number 1 in the Hottest 100 on Triple J.

Not only "Royals', but "Tennis Court" and "Team" have become radio favourites and top sellers on the iTunes store.

Lorde is making her way out her early in 2014 for Laneway Festival. It's pretty exciting and I must say the album is pretty killer too.

For a debut this comes as almost a greatest hits with many songs featuring on the radio prior to it's release. I am in love with this album and it joins a very fine list of albums to take out the album of the year on Boxing Day. Stay tuned for Summer plans for this BLOG as there will be heaps on the way.

For now well done to LORDE.

Fall Out Boy Friday

It's been a really long time (well it felt like a long time since the FBI 10th Birthday Bash with the Preatures) since I have had my ears violated in a live music scene. I really do love the Sydney Entertainment Centre and I will miss it when it finally gets a face lift.

Opening up with a tune "The Phoenix" which had a bit of a gruesome video to accompany it was a big brash tune and showed the boys were here to rock (American style). By the fourth tune it was familiar territory for me with "This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race" which was a stomping crowd favourite. The kids up the front really seemed to love it, fists up in the air and jumping up and down in unison.

"Beat it" the Michael Jackson cover did Jackson proud and kept his music alive. They then moved back to near where I was seated for two acoustic numbers which was an ace way to get the people at the back of the dance floor closer to the handsome Mr Pete Wentz & co.

So that concluded and they were back on stage rocking out. Good variety and a bit of fun along the way. The guys seemed to really be enjoying themselves. Overall I had a great time and of course the classic hit "This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race" was definitely my highlight.

Tonight One Direction: what is it with boy bands this weekend?

Out on the Shelves.... Tomorrow - Part 6

I'm not going to lie this is probably the least exciting week of new releases since this BLOG starting reporting on new releases.

So let's take a look at what's out on the shelves first thing tomorrow.

Linkin Park released a mash up style album with Jay Z years ago, so what next? A remix album of course:

It seems remix albums are the thing this week with the late great Donna Summer releasing "Love To Love You Donna":

And finally one of the biggest POP releases of the year Katy Perry drops "Prism", lucky she beat Gaga and gave Miley some solo sales time.

Next week will be a massive week of releases so stay tuned y'all...

Album of the Year Nomination #5 - Haim - Days are Gone

Straight out of L.A sisters forming the group Haim follow on from Rufus, Kanye West, Disclosure and Rudimental for the Flashing off the Record Album of the Year. Haim have had quiet the year, releasing "Forever" first up they became an instant radio favourite and "Don't Save Me"continued to build their fan base. Touring worldwide the girls went on to release on of my favourite pop gems of 2013 "Falling".

Then came the hit single "The Wire" which has become their crossover hit. The album "Days are Gone" dropped and now they are sure fire hit makers.

"Days are Gone" is a divine pop record with some great influences from across the musical decades.

Haim oh so cool and I have a funny feeling they will make a lot of critics end of year lists.

Stay tuned I have a feeling another album will be joining:

Haim - Days are Gone
Rufus - Atlas
Kanye West - Yeezus
Disclosure - Settle
Rudimental - Home

Keep an eye out :)
