Party Starter Album of the Year - Announced Australia Day

So in place of an Australian album of the year as Rufus kind of have that covered, I am announcing the party album of 2013 on Australia Day and the nominations are direct from the Album of the Year award.

So here are the four nominations:

1. Kanye West - Yeezus

The only hip/hop slash urban release to be nominated. Some production work from Daft Punk helped bring the party. Will Yeezus be the party starter album of 2013?

2. Rufus - Atlas

The only Aussie album of the year nominated album is also a dreamy dance release. With great production by the Sydney boys and some killer singles will this be the party starter banger of 2013?

3. Disclosure - Settle

Those British brothers released a FAB debut and the album has continued to impress from it's mid year release until now. Killer party tunes including guest vocals from Jesse Ware, Eliza Doolittle, Jamie Woon and many more. They even managed a social media war with Azealia Banks in 2013.

4. Rudimental - Home

The most commercially successful album of the four with single after single rising to the top of the charts. "Free" with Emeli Sande is the latest, "Waiting all Night" with Ella Eyre received a bunch of airplay throughout 2013 and previously "Feel the Love" and "Not Giving In" were huge tracks that launched John Newman's solo career.

So there you have it four monster releases, which will be the Party Starter album of 2013? Find out in around about one month...

Album of the year for 2013 & the winner is......

It's been a massive year for music (dance floor albums particularly) and this year we have meet some incredible new artists. Lorde, Haim, Disclosure and Rudimental have all impressed the socks off me.

So which album won me over the most? Was it the controversy of Kanye West's Yeezus? The magic of Lorde's Pure Heroine? The dance floor bliss of either Rudimental, Rufus or Disclosure? Or was it the sisterly bliss of Haim?

I must say my last few album of the year's have all been from solo acts so it's nice that this year my album of 2013 belongs to a group. And a new group. Yes drum roll please and a big round of applause for Haim.

Haim are playing next years sold out (in Sydney) St Jerome's Laneway Festival and I can't wait to see them there or hopefully at a sideshow. Days are Gone is a perfect pop record with hit after hit. "Forever" and "Don't Save Me" which landed in 2012 gave us a warning a band to mess with is on the way and the debut album more than delivered. It was perfect. "Falling" continued to gather new fans while "The Wire" was a chart smash and rightfully so.

"If I could Change Your Mind" is still my favourite cut and "Honey & I" is just a sublime cut.

2013 was the year for these LA sisters, Haim are proudly and simply the Album of the Year. The album is a perfect summer record so with JB Hi-Fi's 20% sale grab it now real cheap - HERE

So until next year (Australia Day to be exact) that is all for the album of the year. However on Australia Day I will announce the party starter Album of the year from the below remaining terrific nominations:

Sorry Lorde the album is no party started but a killer debut effort and I am sure my countdown of 200 songs will feature a lot of our favourite NZ export.

Queen B & the year of the Ladies...

2013 has really been the year of the single ladies smashing it out of the ball park. On my BLOG alone the sisters from Haim, Lorde and the female guests on Rudimental and Disclosures albums have turned it up to 11.

And yesterday we saw one of the biggest stars in the planet release a new album, not just an album a visual album. Beyonce dropped 14 new songs and 17 videos, WHAT! This woman is a work-a-holic! She put everything into her live show of this year and to make a music video for every song on an album no one saw coming, damn baby girl, you PUT it DOWN!

I like people who think outside the box and this is so outside the box that I can see other acts already getting their marketing teams, their record companies all over this shit. Go Beyonce again ahead of the game, sorry Gaga I think y'all been left way behind this year girl.

To celebrate the 20 greatest ladies in music for 2013 come back here Monday AM for a list of the 20 most sensational females in music right now! And tomorrow night another HOT sizzling Summer Countdown with a brand new fresh number one which I am so in love with and it's summer feel and message.

Until tomorrow, happy Saturday.

My Belated ARIA's Rant/Review...

Years gone by the ARIA's have been dominated by one artist or one band, in 2002 it was Kylie's year on the back of her "Fever" album, in 2003 it was Powederfinger and Delta's year, 2004 Jet, 2005 Missy Higgins/Ben Lee and finally as this is getting dull 2006 Bernard Fanning/Eskimo Joe & Wolfmother. Last night it was a three way tie too. Australian Idol acts/Tame Impala and Flume. It was a night for the men of Australian music.

I predicted on an earlier post a few of the winners however Tame Impala taking out the Album of the Year was a little surprise for me.

For all the winners you can click here but here is a quick summary for y'all:

Tame Impala took out two of the big awards Album of the Year and Best Group, whilst also grabbing Best Rock Album of the Year. Flume seemed to easily take out the Best Male Artist, Breakthrough Artist Release, Best Dance Release & finally Producer of the Year.

It was finally the year for former Australian Idol acts (I think it might be a bit of a wait for The Voice contenders however Samantha Jade also did the X Factor proud):

Jessica Mauboy did an awkward speech for her win of the Best Female Artist. It was almost a bit too funny and her idol Alicia Keys seemed overjoyed by Jessica's enthusiasm. Guy Sebastian then took Best Pop Release (I really thought the Preatures deserved it but hey) and then he went for a double play with Best Australian Live Act. Matt Corby the more Triple J friendly of the three took out Song of the Year for "Resolution". Bring us an album already Mr Corby!

All in all the Star Event Centre made a better venue for an awards ceremony than a concert venue and some of the acts really turned up on the night. Their were plenty of awkward speeches though!

Well it's over for another year and I wonder who's big year it is next year and which Idol/X Factor/Voice/Australia's Got Talent will be accepted into the Australian music industry. Or maybe we will leave them to the public voted categories.

Plus totally unrelated and not even an Aussie tune, here is today's #TUNETHURSDAY! So I was expecting this to be up earlier than Thursday, whoops! So here is new music from Sam Smith (La La La and Latch fame):
