Post Holiday Recap

After two new Album of the year nominations and a lot of Feature Album active I am back from the USA and looked through the latest music news to give you a one stop shop with music festival news and more:

1. So Bluesfest have a third announcement including the classic hip hop outfit Jurassic 5.

2.The Falls Festival is sold out in Victoria and NSW, tickets are still available in Tassy, but hurry with Shore Thing cancelled in NSW (Bondi) their is an extreme lack of NYE events this year.

3. Future Music Festival dropped it's big 2015 line up including Avicii, Drake, The Prodigy, Nero, Example & more. Not the extremely OMG line up they were promising buy hey.

4. Sydney Festival has again unveiled a less than spectacular well Festival but the 40 years of Triple J gig feels a little like Homebake coming one month late. In January the Domain will be overtaken by some of Australians finest. For all the details, line up and how to get tickets head here. It really should be a truly wonderful event, the highlight of Sydney Festival and a good replacement for the now down and out Homebake.

Musically their has been a wonderful amount of album releases and single releases whilst I have been away. I will do a new music Saturday wrap up Saturday AM.

Until then hope you're enjoying this week's feature album from Sydney's finest Bertie Blackman.

Album of the Year Nomination #4 - Vance Joy - Dream Your Life Away

First let's do some fast facts on this fourth Album of the Year Nomination for 2014:

1. Debuted at Number One on the ARIA charts
2. Peaked in the Top 20 on the US Billboard 200 chart
3. Features the 5 x Platinum single "Riptide" (that's 350,000 SOLD copies of this single)
4. "Riptide" also was the number one song on the JJJ Hottest 100 for 2013
5. "Riptide" was also my Blog's number 3 song for 2013 behind Lorde & Daft Punk

The album is a 13 track instant Australian classic, featuring 5 truly recognisable singles. Of course "Riptide" has been the biggest but "Mess is Mine" has also be a surprise hit for Joy (real name James Keogh).

This album is a solid debut, a real achievement and I am sure this young man will also scoop the ARIA's for the male category (unless Chet Faker takes the crown - it's a tough year for the men in 2014) as SIA totally has the female category all to her own.

Speaking of SIA and Chet Faker, Vance Joy joins them and Pharrell Williams in the running for the almighty Album of the Year for 2014. Not only this week does Vance Joy join my list of nominations but another album will also join this list tomorrow, so bookmark, hit refresh, it's going to be one hell of an album.

Now some insane cuts from this extremely wonderful debut Australian record:

Album of the Year Nomination #5 - The Preatures - Blue Planet Eyes

After announcing the wonderful Vance Joy "Dream Your Life Away" album yesterday and previously Sia's "1,000 Forms of Fear", Pharrell Williams "G I R L" & Chet Faker "Built on Glass" it's time for nomination number five.

Out of Sydney it's the fantastic (on record and live) The Preatures. The band has released hit after hit over the past couple of years and after 2 years it is time for their debut album to drop.

Blue Planet Eyes is a ten track dream debut from the Sydney group. I ranked "Is this How You Feel" (undoubtedly their biggest hit to date) at number 7 in my 200 biggest hits of 2013. Their latest track "Somebody's Talking" is another instant smash hit.

This album is nothing short of a must have for fans of Australian music. A group I believe like Vance Joy will surely do extremely well at this year's ARIA awards. Even stepping/crossing over a little bit to the Adult Contemporary market this group is destined for good things.

Now for some of the great tracks that make up this 10 track sublime debut, The Preatures are now in the running for the Album of the Year for 2014 prize. The winner will be announced on Boxing Day along with 200-101 songs of 2014.
