Saturday Spotlight: Splendour 2015

The Internet is all about leaks, Game of Thrones, Line up's, albums, NOTHING is safe. So to say the Splendour line up was a little unsurprising is an understatement but nevertheless this is a top line up for 2015. Splendour one of the LAST standing music festivals, how many more will drop off before we head into 2016.

Here is a wee look at this years Splendour highlights.

Sunday Spotlight: Paul Mac

One of the most exciting new releases this week comes from Sydney producer Paul Mac. Mac has an extensive career like Fatboy Slim under various names. However today I wanted to highlight his solo work and particularly his new record HOLIDAY FROM ME

In 2001 Paul Mac's career as a solo artist was massive he crossover from being a Triple J featured artist to the mainstream with his smash hit "Just the Thing" with Peta Morris. His 2005 follow up didn't have that one killer hit but it did introduce us to talents like Ngaiire and the Presets did a bang up just remixing "It's Not, It's You" for a killer club smash.

Paul Mac also continued his relationship with Daniel Johns and Silverchair by producing some of their work and him and Daniel Johns teaming up for The Dissociative's.

It was with great joy I found out Mac along with guests like Nathan Hudson from Faker and Ngaiire would return for a 2015 release Holiday From Me.

Thanks Paul Mac for bringing us a wonderful local dance album Australia can be proud of, it's great dancing on the dance floor to a Calvin Harris or Major Lazer record but it's great when a local producer also makes something amazing that you can dance your ass off to.

Album of the Year Nomination #2 - Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly

Nothing like a Long Weekend to listen to a whole heap of good new music and discover true gems and here is the second musically gem of 2015. First was Mr Mark Ronson and his release Uptown Special and next up it's Kendrick Lamar and his Hip Hop masterpiece To Pimp a Butterfly.

It's the Easter feature album and you can check out two killer cuts below "King Kunta" one of this years best and most fierce videos to drop thus far and also The Blacker the Berry, one of the most intense jams of 2015.

The album also features my #6 show of 2014 "i" in a live version, but in the meantime here is the killer single version from 2014.

Kendrick Lamar is one talented dude, 3 albums in and To Pimp a Butterfly is one of the most critically acclaimed records of 2015 thus far. He has dropped 5 mix tapes and 1 EP and featured on tracks from Flying Lotus, Alicia Keys, Pusha T, Solange, 50 Cent, Schoolboy Q and A$AP Rocky.

He is one of the most respected folk in hip hop and his latest album features production from Pharrell, Flying Lotus, Thundercat and more. This is a complete collection of perfect hip hop.

I am in love with this record and can't wait to see where Kendrick goes next. Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe was one of the hottest songs of 2013 and promised Kendrick was going to be a star and a real contender, now he is my second nomination for the album of 2015.

The Album of the Year will be announced on Boxing Day along with the biggest songs of 2015 Part One.

Happy Easter from Flashing off the Record.
