Australian Music Month Starts Here - Classic Aussie Feature #1

Straight out of Lismore back in the day Grinspoon released this rocking first album full of radio gems and festival favourites. September 1997 saw the release of Guide to Better Living and the record spawned many Grinspoon favourites including Just Ace, DCx3, Repeat, Pedestrian and Don't Go Away.

Recorded in Byron Bay, Grinspoon quickly became Triple J favourites and later getting played on commercial radio nationally with hits like Chemical Heart.

Grinspoon were the perfect Aussie festival band and I remember seeing them at a Homebake or a Big Day Out or two.

This week we are going to return to 1997 for this great rock album which I went through High School loving sick.

Grinspoon what better way to kick off Aussie Music Month V2.0. Hope y'all enjoy April!

And finally with no Fresh Friday Countdown in lieu of Good Friday last week, here is the Easter Number One track for Easter 2016.

Well done Sia and she has just released an official video for this song and it's not half bad. Let's hope Sia continues her successful run as this track has now gone Gold status in Australia and so has the album This is Acting.

This Week's Feature Star - a History of the young Matt Corby

Matt Corby is one of those lucky and successful 90's babies. Born in 1990, at the age of 16 Matt Corby was introduced to Australian audiences on Australian Idol. The one and only singing competition show back in 2007.

From their came a series of EP's and a new audience on national broadcaster Triple J, 5 EP's down the track and 7 years later we finally got a debut album from one of Australia's favourite singer/songwriters from the past decade.

No doubt the album will debut high on the ARIA charts (last week's feature record from the Cat Empire debuted at Number1!, all thanks to this very blog - lol) so here is a look back at Matt's long career even though we are only just hearing his debut record this March.

Yes next week is Easter, it's a FOUR day weekend and I will bring you a special Mon - Thu Feature Album and then an entire Easter party Feature Album.

This week we have been featuring the sublime debut solo record from Mr Matt Corby.

It's been a long time in the waiting, but it has been well worth the wait for another fantastic Australian album to be released in 2016, here he is talking about recording one of the singles Monday.

Next month (speaking of Australian Music) we will deliver another month featuring amazing Australian music and what a year it has been thus far, Flume, Hilltop Hoods, Sia and Rufus all topping the charts. And not to mention we will be in Eurovision again.

As I will be away in Asia over Easter, there may be less posts than normal.

This Week's Feature Stars - a History of the brilliant Cat Empire

This week's Feature Album has been another great example of how wonderful a year it has been (and continues to be) for Australian music. The Cat Empire continue to release exciting, fun party music that they bust onto the scene with back in the day with Hello.

7 albums in and the Cat Empire are almost veterans in the Aussie music scene, selling out shows and being around since 2003, it's been an exciting trip watching these boys continue to produce exceptional and current music along with having an impressing back catalogue, so today we celebrate the history of the Cat Empire.
