RE: ARIA Awards 2017

So how did my predictions go when the nominations were announced back in October?

Well I got it in one with Gang of Youths taking out the album of 2017, with Go Farther in Lightness, I also predicted they would take out best group and rock album.

I got best pop release and best female artists mixed up with touring duo Amy Shark and Sia, however except a review from that gig Amy Shark, MO, Charli XCX & Sia soon.... Right here.

Paul Kelly shook my predictions taking best male artist but I was correct with best adult contemporary album.

There was no doubt Album of the Year (this Blog's) PNAU would take out the dance category, they also opened the show in sensational style, I hear I only watched the last bit of the show.

Breakthrough artist was tricky because both Amy Shark and Tash Saltana had huge years, however I went with the wrong option.

A.B. Original took out the two gongs I predicted, best urban and independent releases. A.B Original also recently won the coveted J Award for Reclaim Australia. I also feel it has the album title of the year.

I was also slightly wrong with Best Blues and Roots and Heavy Metal records, not my finest guesses, however soon I will attempt the Grammy predictions.

There will be a Fresh Friday Countdown tomorrow and a new Summer music list Sunday. Stay tuned as all the best of 2017 will continue to go under the microscope right here @ Flashing off the Record...

Sunday Spotlight: Björk

Still one of my favourite concerts EVER, Björk back in 2008 at the Forecourt of Sydney' iconic Opera House on January 23 of that year. Ready to headline the Big Day Out (remember those) Björk did a side show but became ill and never performed at the 2008 Sydney Big Day Out.

I thought myself lucky I brought a last minute ticket to this exceptional live show. Björk's new music has not really reached the masses she used to, however Björk has always done it her way and I respect that.

Utopia is out on Friday and Bjork's 9th studio record, considering her debut record came out in 1977, Björk's longevity as rare as hens teeth in 2017. When albums are rarely released by some artists and singles/EP's and mixtapes litter the Apple store now, nine albums is a huge achievement.

It's with Björk that we can conclude the Sunday Spotlights for 2017, from next week end of year and general music lists. We commence with a focus on the ARIA's. For now let's enjoy some classic Björk sounds.

Next Week's Album of the Week | SIA | Preview

It would not be November without Greatest Hits albums and Christmas albums appearing wherever you buy good music.

I mentioned this during the week and I could not help but feature Sia this coming week and her latest album, a Christmas record...

I am currently abroad enjoying Autumn in Japan, where here the Christmas decorations from the far corner of the once a year cupboard and dusted off and displayed and even Sydney Airport was getting into the swing of the holiday season.

Everyday really is Christmas all next week as we say goodbye to the Melbourne Cup and hello holidays!

Tomorrow come by for another extremely awesome solo female artist for the final Sunday Spotlight of 2017.

Out on the Shelves... Friday

Christmas is just around the corner, that means Christmas albums and Greatest Hits albums, so let's look to Green Day for their Greatest Hits record. It's called God's Favourite Band. They have a musical returning in 2018 American Idiot!

Sunday spotlight's was Tove Lo and her latest record is also out this Friday, it's called Blue Lips (Lady Wood Phase II).

Miss Blanks releases an EP this Friday ahead of a few festival performances.

NXWorries will release a remix album, Yes Lawd was awesome, so I will be interested to hear how this goes, the originals from Anderson. Paak and Knxwledge are outstanding!

Speaking of Christmas, yes Sia's Christmas album is here, after to tastes of the album it lands on shelves and online on Friday.

Dean Lewis will also release an acoustic version of this hugely successful EP of this year, Same Kind of Different.

Sunday Spotlight: Tove Lo

Born Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson and now calling herself Tove Lo you may know her from the featured vocals on Flume's monster smash hit Say It. Tove has a number of hit singles herself and a new album coming to an Apple Store near you this Friday!

Tove's debut came out in September, 2014 and gave us the hit Habits (Stay High), a song I have recently been embracing in one of my Body Balance classes.

Tove then gave us that classy pop hit Cool Girl from Lady Wood, following in 2016 Tove hit it big featuring on a Nick Jonas track and that monster Flume track I was talking about. Skin from Flume was my biggest album of 2016 and Say It was such a great follow up to Never Be Like You.

Disco Tits hit the internet recently and I lost it, great track, great song title and so addictive. An instant gym workout number. Her third album Blue Lips lands on November 17 and consists of two chapters Light Beam and Pitch Black.

So let's pretend it's still Saturday night or a Melbourne Cup after party and get loose with Tove, YASS!

Album of the Year Nomination #3 & #4 - Lorde - Melodrama | PNAU - Changa

I can't remember earlier this year whether I announced on here that LORDE would be joining HAIM and KENDRICK LAMAR in the race for 2017's Album of The Year. Her album Melodrama has been a monster smash with Green Light joining HUMBLE. in the race for the song of 2017.

Along with a huge album, her tour continues to sell well which kicks off this month. Kicking off in Perth this time next week, Lorde heads to Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra (yes Canberra) and Melbourne.

Not too mention THAT huge remix of Homemade Dynamite (my personal favourite song on the album).

Featuring the years hottest stars SZA, Khalid and Post Malone. It could in fact be the collaboration of 2017!

Joining our young Kiwi friend Lorde as the fourth addition to the end of year race is PNAU. Sydney dance veterans have released one of the best dance comeback albums in decades.

Changa featured one of 2016/2017 Summers biggest dance jams in Chameleon. Although Chameleon was released all the way back in November 2016, the song continues to pack a punch and has been a huge favourite from this weeks feature album.

Along with Chameleon, Vera Blue teams up with the boys for the sensational single Young Melody. The Baby sampled Faul & Wad Ad Changes also makes an appearance despite originally being released in 2013.

These singles make the album almost feel like a best of PNAU from the last few years making Changa a solid as fuck release.

The album of 2017 will be announced on Boxing Day, 2017, for now let's take the biggest cut from this week's feature album and the latest Album of 2017 list of nominated records.

Sunday Spotlight: PNAU

Album number six (five if you exclude the weird Elton John remix releases in 2012) for Sydney group PNAU lands this coming Friday (10 November) and includes massive comeback single Chameleon. Chameleon peaked at number four in Australia whilst reaching 34 in NZ.

Changa will also be this blog's feature album all next week - hooray!

I remember hearing PNAU's sensational debut back in 1999 on Peaking Duck records, Sambonova. Featuring the great single Journey Agent and the re-release feature the house tune Follow Me.

PNAU have delivered multiple hits but Again and Soft Universe missed the mark a little.

I am excited to hear the remaining tracks from Changa, so far we have had some great cuts, Young Melody, Go Bang, Control Your Body and Into the Sky.

So let's have some sounds on Sunday....
