Australiana Sunday Spotlight: Missy Higgins

Yep, four original albums and one covers album down, Missy Higgins is back with Solastalgia.  After completeing a record breaking tour with Ed Sheeran, Missy will soon set off on a tour of her own. Joining Ed for all 12 dates across Australia Missy played record crowds and no doubt won some new fans across her travels.

I remember hearing All For Believing when Triple J Unearthed was just a small beast, now they have unearthed (literally) so many of Australia's best talents.

I could write for hours about Missy and her debut album helping me through hard times whilst abroad living in Canada, missing home, going through break ups and hearing The Special Two for the first time.

What was next to come from Missy was song after song which is the soundtrack for many people's lives.

I have seen the amazing Missy live a number of times, she is beautiful, amazing and extremely talented.

Today is the final Australiana Sunday Spotlight and what best artist to wrap up the month than Missy, she is a homegrown legend. Easily one of Australia's best singer songwriters, Missy I love you, your musician and everything you stand for. Let's kick back and enjoy some of Missy's biggest tracks.

Australiana Sunday Spotlight: Katalyst | Space Invadas

In the middle of 2002 I discovered a genius producer named Katalyst, he gave us a great record Manipulating Agent, however he kept us waiting another five years for the amazing Whats Happening.

In 2010 Katalyst teamed up with Steve Spacek to become Space Invadas, last Friday the duo released a new record and today they (although with former tracks from Katalyst) make up today's Sunday Spotlight.

It's Australiana month for a little longer, so let's chill and get some Good Vibes on, thanks Katalyst for over a decade of great Australian music.

Only a few more days and one more public holiday for Australiana month, it's been a blast and yesterday we got another great number of Australian releases. For Q&A star Missy Higgins, Carmada and tomorrow's Sunday Spotlight artist Katalyst features from last weekend go HERE.

And last but not least, dance music actually lost a great soul, Avicii, you can see my tribute HERE.

Now onto yesterday's BIGGEST Australian releases, first up Jaala.

Vera Blue gave us a remix EP for her stellar track Lady Powers, here however is a live version, girl can SING!

And last but not least, let's dance and go to the clubs as a tribute to the late, great Avicii, this is new from Odd Mob.

Australiana Sunday Spotlight: Stonefield

Hailing from Victoria it's the Findlay sisters or as they are known to many Triple J listeners and music lovers across the country and world, it's Stonefield.

Three albums in the group released on Friday the 13th their latest Far from Earth.

After the Tame Impala inspired second record released on my birthday back in 2016, the group have gone from strength to strength.

From the big debut single Black Water Rising back in 2011 the group have excelled, so let's spend Sunday with Stonefield.

Australiana Sunday Spotlight: Kylie

April is all about Australian music and today we turn from the week of dancing our ass off in a Warehouse somewhere with Alison Wonderland to pure pop, with the pop princess herself, Kylie!

Kylie has delivered her 14th studio album this week and that is a real achievement. Her first record dropped all the way back in 1988, now in 2018 we are still Dancing with Ms Minogue and her Golden record is sneaking it's way up the charts beating off new pop divas like Selena Gomez and Dua Lupa.

Kylie paved the way for the tiny pop princess, Ariana owes a lot to hardworking divas like Ms Minogue.

From huge highs like the Light Years and Fever period to lows like the critically adored Impossible Princess and recent releases like Kiss Me Once.

Kylie has always been there, with so many Greatest Hits over the years, Kylie is a true trooper.

So let's get down to it, some of Kylie's best hits since 1988, next Sunday's spotlight I can guarantee is totally in another league so pope back then, or enjoy City Calm Down all this week as our feature record.

Australiana April, Starts NOW...

Like the guests at a One Nation BBQ it's time to talk things all Australian. April is a time of Daylights Savings winding back for the modern states and a few public holidays and school holidays.

So what better way to mark all the holidays with some outstanding local sounds, unlike Nova in Melbourne playing little to no Australian music, this month it's all Australian features kicking off with a feature album from Alison Wonderland on Tuesday. Alison's new album is out Friday, with some all fire singles already out, it should be another banger.

Today let's check in with the hottest 20 Australian songs as per the Australian iTunes store right now. As there was no Fresh Friday Countdown this is a nice substitute.
