Out on the Shelves... Yesterday

BIG day for new releases yesterday as we all waited until later in the day for Drake's double album, but other than Drake what else came out yesterday?

Kota Banks is my new addiction her latest track Fiorentina, to my surprise a ten track MixTape appeared online yesterday from her..... and it's pure FIRE.

Featured on the A Side (yes it's back to the old school side A & B), it's Drake with his latest release Scorpion. This track is I'm Upset and people love the video sick!

Tomorrow I will share with you the brilliant new Florence and the Machine release, High as Hope. Florence is our Sunday Spotlight.

Speaking of Sunday Spotlight's recently I featured the Gorillaz, there latest record The Now Now, is finally out now.

The Rubens are next week's exciting feature stars and I can't wait to feature their third record Lo La Ru, it hit the streaming services and online stores yesterday. Not K-Mart though, they have now ceased selling music and DVD's.

Who saw this coming.... New music from The Vines!

Singer/songwriter Dean Lewis is back with a new single, will it be as big as Waves?

Sunday Spotlight: The Carters (Jay Z vs Beyonce)

It came from nowhere and like Beyonce's own Lemonade, it smashed the Internet. Jay Z's recent album 4:44 was a return to form and Beyonce found a whole new fanbase and Triple J airplay with Lemonade.

Everything is Love is one of those albums which drops and the world stops, Apeshit is honestly one of the best singles and my favourites thus far this year. I have had the song on loop since it was released from Tidal as an exclusive.

With shade thrown the way of Spotify it's a miracle the album is now finally streaming! Tidal has been a bit of a pain and music fans don't seem 100% on board with the service yet, so I am happy they released a brilliant video free to YouTube and days after it's on all platforms.

Jay Z and Beyonce have had an amazing few years, so it's hard to do but let's look at some career highlights, I'm mainly going to focus on the last couple of years as it's too hard to pick out the favourites from Jay Z's massive back catalogue, Beyonce/Destiny's Child huge back catalogue.

So team, ENJOY, nice to meet you The Carters!

Out on the Shelves... Tomorrow | Preview

Nine Inch Nails will release a six track "album" tomorrow lead by the below single.

Panic at the Disco will be in Australia this October, playing some big venues, I can't believe their sixth studio record Pray for the Wicked.

It's been 20 years since the fabulous Version 2.0 album landed via Garbage. I brought the CD (yes physical CD) and saw them live at the now defunct Vivid, in Brisbane. This was a huge album full of radio friendly hits. I can't believe 20 years ago I thought I was paranoid!

Next week we are featuring the fabulous album from Jack River AKA Holly Rankin, here is a sneak peek.

Soulwax are ready to get all electronic for a Friday with Essential.

Sunday Spotlight: Gorillaz

Gorillaz new album The Now Now I read was meant to be out this past Friday, it is not the first time album release dates have changed, recently The Presets delayed their album and well it was well worth the wait, it was next to perfect.

The Gorillaz had a long break between their album The Fall and last years Humanz, so I was actually surprised this album was on the way.

We have had a few samples already of the new album and hot damn it sounds good thus far...

Now quickly going back a little while back in 2001 Damon Albarn unleashed the huge hit Clint Eastwood on the musical world. From his Blur days to now collaborating with Jamie Hewlett, Albarn has had a huge career and though this virtual band, six albums down the track they may even overtake his Blur records.

With so many fly collaborations, the Gorillaz are outstanding musical pioneers, with yet another, exciting new album right before the end of the financial year. The Now Now lands June 29.

Weekend Album of the Week

It's been a huge four weeks for Kanye, Kid Cudi and him teamed up as Kids See Ghosts, Pusha T released a great 7 track album and Kanye also took a photo on an iPhone which became his Ye album cover.

Now Nas has his Nasir release out there. So let's wrap up the week(s) of Kanye's musical supremacy, chart domination and more media than his been used to since his TMZ interview.

Let's check out Nas first and some other highlights.

Sunday Spotlight: Lykke Li

Hailing from Sweden, it's another European singer-songwriter princess, Lykke Li. Her fourth album So Sad So Sexy comes out this coming Friday.

Following the hip hop flavoured and different sounding Deep End, Lykke continues to evolve as an artist.

We have been gifted some of the cuts from the ten track long player already and I am instantly in love. It's different and brilliant all at once, her debut Youth Novels all the way back in 2008 gave us hits like Little Bit, I'm Good, I'm Gone and Breaking it Up.

So on Sunday, lets go to Sweden and discover the musical path the 32 year old has been on, it's diverse, fun and full of hits.

It's a long weekend in Australia next weekend, so no Sunday Spotlight, it'll be back on Sunday 17 June, 2018.
