Sunday Spotlight: Mac Miller

Hailing from Pittsburgh and recently going through a public spilt with Ariana Grande (now engaged to another gentleman) it's today's spotlight on Mac Miller.

On Friday, Mac will release his fifth studio album Swimming. This time around I will be surprised if Ariana features on one or any of the tracks.

Mac Miller gave us one of the most catchy singles a few years back and showed how simply cool Anderson Paak was on Dang. Since then he has given us a few hits and the lead up to album number five, we have received 3 promo singles.

So let's celebrate our Sundays with some tasty tunes with Mr Mac Miller.

Sunday Spotlight: The Internet

Syd, Matt Martians, Steve Lacy, Patrick Paige II & Christopher Smith from LA, California make up The Internet. A truly cool, smooth AF group, The Internet released their fourth chilled album Hive Mind on Friday.

With a few lead in singles, the new album was hotly anticipated. Featuring Roll (Burbank Funk) and Come Over the group showed the easily followed up the past hits Girl and Special Affair from their brilliant Ego Death album.

Syd took some time to release a brilliant solo release last year as did Matt Martians. The group together though are super smooth, the video to Come Over is also one of the best music videos (in my mind) from 2018 thus far.

I look forward to more releases and hopefully an Australian visit from these extremely talent individuals. The Internet are stylish, silk and most of all extremely talented players, great work crew, please come to Australia again, please?

Album of the Year Nomination #3 - Amy Shark - Love Monster

Only last week I announced Drake's Scorpion was the latest Album of The Year Nomination for 2018, now this week as we feature Amy Shark's debut album, it's time for our third nominee for 2018.

Our second Australian nomination for 2018 following on from Vance Joy all the way back in March is from Gold Coast native, Amy Shark.

Shark gave us a terrific EP last year Night Thinker following on from the huge single Adore. The EP went on to feature Weekends and Drive You Mad giving Shark a solid fan base.

By mid April 2018 Shark gave us another huge single I Said Hi. A huge favourite on the Fresh Friday Countdown here and peaking at number 6 on the ARIA charts.

Shark gave us a number of promo singles before the album finally saw a release date of last Friday. Shark also managed to sneak Adore on there and a sneaky duet with Mark Hoppus.

With production by well known producers like Lorde hit maker Joel Little, M-Phazes and Evermore member Dann Hume.

Amy Shark has had an incredibly impressive start to 2018, her album is on track to debut very well this week when the ARIA charts are published and no doubt her streams on streaming services around the world are going off.

Well done Amy, the third nomination for this years Album of the Year. Announcement posted here on Boxing Day, 2018.

Sunday Spotlight: Childish Gambino

Preparing to release his fourth studio record, Childish Gambino has unleashed a double A side during the week, the Summer Pack.

After the force of This is America these two track take a very different vive, Summertime Magic and Feels like Summer feel happy and old school vibe driven Gambino.

Childish Gambino AKA Donald Glover has had a huge year, Awaken My Love was a monster success with Redbone smashing through to new audiences and his hit FX series Atlanta was renewed for a third season following a massive second season.

Gambino is a legend, I am truly all about his vibe, he is handsome, smart, one of the most diverse artists of our current times and after his This is America video he sure who's how to build hype.

Back in 2013 his 3005 hit had me shook, in 2018 I still always look forward to new music and ventures from this incredible artist.

So let's take a minute to celebrate the start of this amazing career, whether it be in future Han Solo original films, Atlanta's third season or future music projects, Donald Glover is the king, you would be mad not to see him when he visits Australia for a number of live shows later this year.

We will take a deep dive into Childish Gambino and Odette (over on my other BLOG) tomorrow whilst on my other BLOG today it's a French music explosion, from Cassius to Mr Ozio and everything in between. Actually it's mainly dance music as they do it so well and it's Saturday! Check it out HERE.

First up it's Baauer, 3am

More club music from Born Dirty x Anna Lunoe, it's simply called Badass

There is a lot of club music this week, now it's Fisher's turn with Losing it.

I'm 100% undecided upon the new Hilltop Hoods single, apparently it's about fatherhood.

Album of the Year Nomination #2 - Drake - Scorpion

Love him or hate him, you cannot deny Drake is honestly one of the biggest artists of our time. Following Hotline Bling, Passionfruit, One Dance and many more hits (maybe featured on the recent Sunday Profile) Drake released a double disc set Scorpion and it's our second Album of the Year Nomination for 2018.

Following on from the local talent Vance Joy, Drake is leading the way for hip hop. And man has it been a big year for the genre. Kanye's album frenzy, Migos released the catchy AF Culture II, Post Malone broke records and Jay Z and Beyonce showed off their star power with an album as The Carters.

Scorpion follows the huge hits God's Plan, Nice for What and I'm Upset. I am addicted to the tune Nonstop and this week another single has been revealed In My Feelings and it's already a huge hit on iTunes.

Speaking of huge hits, here are the countries the album made it to number one in:

Australia
Canada (where he also accounts for a shit tonne of tourism, apparently)
Finland
Ireland
New Zealand
USA
UK
Switzerland

Wow, go Drake!

So joining the amazing Vance Joy, we now have a second album in the ring for the Album of 2018. Last year Drake's More Life took out my once off Anything but an Album award of 2017, so will Drake be crowned the Album of the Year for 2018 on Boxing Day? Time will tell and I actually smell a third nomination incoming, so keep your eyes peeled, right here.

Until tomorrow's Fresh Friday Countdown, happy school holidays kids.

Sunday Spotlight: Drake

Hailing from Toronto, it's one of Canada's (if not biggest) stars Drake.

Five albums, six mixtapes, over one hundred singles and two EP's, Drake is honestly at the top of his game and to be honest the entire game in general.

My first Drake I really got excited about was actually Hold On, Were Going Home, later discovered I liked Take Care a lot with Rihanna and when Hotline Bling dropped in 2015 I was hooked.

By 2015 Drake was a household name, he was everywhere, he was all over the streaming devices and he was killing it across the Globe, hitting bigger streaming numbers than Canada's other super son, Justin Bieber.

So let's get into it, if it's a club banger or a chilled smooth groove on a Sunday you're after, Drake and many, many guests has something for everyone.

Last night Drake's double release Scorpion hit number one in Australia, so let's celebrate!

Out on the Shelves... Yesterday

First up, introducing next week's sensational and positive sounding new record from The Bamboos, it's called Night Time People. Little known fact, it's next week's feature album too.

It's ben a while since we have heard from Goldfrapp so it's nice to see new music from them out there. The new album is called Silver Eye and you can also grab yourself a Deluxe Edition to boot!

The Mini Sunday Profile tomorrow belongs to Odette, over on my old other BLOG, there is so much new music to explore, so I am introducing a new(ish) artist every week, whilst here, an established, well known artist will be explored most Sundays. Odette's debut album is called To A Stranger and it dropped yesterday. For more Odette, head here tomorrow.

Australian actor and star of Jack Irish Guy Pearce released an album yesterday believe it or not, it's called The Nomad.

Even more unbelievable, social media series and multi channel romance/shirtless romp Love Island has teamed up with Ministry Of Sound to deliver Love Island The Pool Party, the compilation album!

The brilliant and I heard through the grapevine very camp Years & Years are back with a new album Palo Santo. Now if the title track is anything to go by this will be a solid release. I look forward to checking it out in the coming weeks.

Two solid singles were also released digitally yesterday, Christine & The Queens follow up to the brilliant Girlfriend, Doesn’t Matter. I loved Girlfriend so I am hoping this is a grower. Whilst Set Mo continues to release single after single, here is See The Light.

Also released digitally was the 2018 Tour Edition of Pnau – Changa, now new fans can discover some of their older hits. Oh young people!

Sunday Spotlight: Florence & The Machine

Heading to Australia in 2019, Florence and the Machine released their fourth studio on Friday and I sure had the hunger for the entire ten track release High as Hope.

After releasing Hunger and Big God, we got a fresh set of ten tracks from Florence and the gang and they did not disappoint. Florence now has a very loyal following and they are lapping up this new music as well as tickets to the 2019 tour.

After seeing Florence touring at Sydney's iconic Opera House Forecourt a few years back, I urge you, if you're a fan, the night at the Domain will be one to remember.

I fell in love with Florence all the way back with Dog Days are Over, now Florence is an iconic, stylish, independent, delightful singer.

Let's go to the Sunday church of Florence with a collection of the groups best hits, next week, a feature week of The Rubens new record and a huge Sunday Spotlight next week with one of Canada's biggest exports, Drake.

See you then....
