Sunday Spotlight: The Amity Affliction

I featured the two lead singles from their sixth studio record Misery in yesterday's post (you can view HERE) so today is more about a best of for QLD group The Amity Affliction.

Forming in 2003, the group has seen a few line up changes, however they are fan favourites and played a number of live shows as well as music festivals across Australia and abroad.

Usually I have more chilled artists on Sunday Spotlight or my favourite female artist, well you can catch Laurel here on my other BLOG.

From tomorrow I will feature Tash Sultana's awesome long player, finally landing on Friday AM. For now turn it up to 11, it's the The Amity Affliction, a 100% local week of features continuing tomorrow with so much Tash Sultana!

Sunday Spotlight: Dev Hynes // Blood Orange

Blood Orange AKA Dev Hynes, AKA Lightspeed Champion, AKA songwriter/producer of our times. He has worked with Solange, Sky Ferreira, Kylie and so many more!

Blood Orange will release a new record as well Blood Orange this coming Friday. He has shared a few singles/visuals and so far I am excited. He enlisted Empress Of for the fab Best of You from his last record and I still love that jam!

Blood Orange/Dev Hynes is really talented, like so talented he has also worked withe the dance champions of the UK like Basement Jaxx and The Chemical Brothers. Negro Swan will be his fourth Blood Orange record, as Lightspeed Champion he released two records and has released a number of Mixtapes.

Negro Swan lands on Friday August 24th and I cannot wait till hear the entire thing. Make sure you hang out here next week as we explore another album coming this Friday, it's Paces second album Zag.

Another new music Friday, another big round of new music. First up who would have thought Death Cab For Cutie were still pumping out records, well they are and the new one is called Thank You For Today.

A couple of reissues on the local front, both back in the day I owned on CD. First up it's Eskimo Joe's Inshalla the Anniversary Edition.

On the singles front we have new tunes from Hey Geronimo (Working For Google), Asha Jeffries (Everybody Talks) and a track from next week's feature album featuring Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian, it's Paces. His new record Zag, is the feature album all next week ahead of it's release on Friday.

Sunday Spotlight: Travis Scott

Hailing from Houston, Texas Travis Scott is almost 10 years my junior but man, in the past few years he has exploded.

Three albums in, a number of features, supporting Kendrick Lamar on his DAMN tour in 2017, Travis Scott is at the top of his game. His recent album ASTROWORLD debuted at number one in Australia this week, whilst also having three singles in the top 50 singles chart.

Scott is also dating a member of "that family" and had a child this year named, what for it... Stormi Webster. Of all years to call a child Stormy.

Travis Scott first got my attention mid 2016 with Pick up the Phone, it was equally catchy as it was annoying, however it was a grower and by Goosebumps in December of 2016, I was sold.

For an artist who hasn't been around for that long, he sure has achieved a bunch, he also happened to be this week's feature record on Triple j, and you can view their feature HERE.

Until next week, enjoy some sights and sounds from Houston rapper Travis Scott below.

Online/Streaming... NOW! - Maldives Live Edition

Live from the Maldives, here is the hottest new releases that dropped yesterday.

First up the second album from UK dance duo Gorgon City is here, loads of guests and that hot jam Real Life with Duke Dumont and Naations.

Straight outta Auckland it's The Beths, guitar pop legends! Yass!

Super camp solo album from Jake Shears is here, and this video is over the top camp.

Speaking of solo Dave Grohl released a long music video and song. Will he release an entire long album? When will we hear from the Foo Fighters next? Either way this is a big project for a solo track, listen and watch below.

Super group LSD are back and apparently an album is on the way. Following Audio and Genius this is the latest from the trio.

RUFUS DU SOL continue to tease new music with this almost six minute slice of electronic heaven...

And finally more new music from across the ditch, it's the terrific Broods. They are back and this song is damn fine. I look forward to more new music from the duo. I still crush hard over Heartlines and Free!

Album of the Year 2018 Update

Hope you're enjoying this week's feature album from Trophy Eyes, Triple J featured the record last week and you can see their fantastic feature HERE.

In the meantime Boxing Day 2018 is just around the corner. Well maybe Labor Day long weekend, Halloween, another round of school holidays, Trump's impeachment will come first but hey, let's check out where the three nominated records are now.

First up Amy Shark. So currently Amy is all loved up and getting heaps of radio play. At a brief YouTube search the song is already attracting some cover versions. Well done Amy. In other Shark related news I Said Hi is honestly still one of the biggest songs for 2018, will it reach number one in my annual top 200 songs of the year poll? Time will tell, I will post that, January 1st, 2019.

Next up, his dance has the world almost dying with excitement and Kiki's all around the world are now famous, Drake's Scorpion record is a monster. I would say this is way bigger than More Life and getting so much love. Nonstop is still one of my favourite jams but In My Feelings, well it's huge, it's maybe Drake's biggest worldwide hit since One Dance.

Now to Mr Joy, Vance Joy has enjoyed a massive spike in radio play with his new singe One of These Days. Were Coming Home (Like Shark's I Said Hi) is also one of 2018's biggest local (and international for that matter) tracks. His album continues to chart well and the track is full to the brim of catchy pop songs.

Who will take out the 2018 Album of the Year? Time will tell....

Sunday Spotlight: Regurgitator

Welcome to 90's world! Remember the indie hey days, Recovery on ABC TV and Triple J with Jane Gazzo and Michael Tunn? Well that is when this band Regurgitator hailing from Brisbane were huge!

They played most Homebake festivals, Big Day Out and national tours for most singles and album releases. The group gave us such hits as I Will Lick Your Asshole, I've Sucked a Lot of Cock to Get Where I Am and Fat Cop.

The Gurge as they were known back in the day were huge on the live music scene and equally loved across Triple J and other community stations.

On Friday the group released their latest release HEADROXX. I took a listen on Friday at work and some of the short tunes work, but I do miss the boys work from my youth. Like their song goes I Like Your Old Stuff better than Your New Stuff. Maybe that is true with age.

However from Bangkok as I celebrate a few weeks away from Sydney, it's time to remember the brilliant hey days of the Gurge and also learn to love the new sounds of Ben, Quan and Peter. With Quan pissing off to Hong Kong whilst Ben Ely calls Melbourne home. All according to Wikipedia though....

So enjoy a bit of a Retro Sunday Spotlight, tomorrow a great new local release from a group of up starts out of Newcastle.
