(Pre) Friday Flash(back)

Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian singer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker.

In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. As a touring act, Tame Impala consists of Parker (vocals, guitar, synthesiser), Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesiser), Jay Watson (synthesiser, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass guitar, vocals, synthesiser), & Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals).

The group has a close affiliation with fellow Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, sharing members and collaborators, including Nick Allbrook, formerly a live member of Tame Impala.

Parker originally conceived the project in Perth in 2007. After a series of singles and EPs, Tame Impala's debut studio album, Innerspeaker, was released in 2010; it was certified gold in Australia and well received by critics.

Parker's 2012 follow-up, Lonerism, was also acclaimed, reaching platinum status in Australia and receiving a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.

Tame Impala's third album, Currents, was released in July 2015, and like its predecessor, it won ARIA Awards for Best Rock Album and Album of the Year. Parker won the APRA Award for Song of the Year 2016 for Currents' first track, Let It Happen.

The fourth studio album, The Slow Rush, was released on 14 February 2020 to further praise from music critics. At the 2020 ARIA Music Awards, Tame Impala won five awards.

Outside of album releases, in March 2023, Tame Impala released the song Wings of Time from the soundtrack of the film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Contiuing the soundtrack vibes in 2023, Tame Impala released Journey to the Real World for the film Barbie, as part of the soundtrack album.

Then in 2024, Tame Impala collaborated with Justice on the single One Night/All Night for their album Hyperdrama. Parker also appeared on another song, Neverender on the record.

Parker co-wrote and produced Dua Lipa's third studio album, Radical Optimism. He later joined Lipa onstage during her headline performance at Glastonbury 2024, performing Tame Impala's The Less I Know the Better & Lipa's Houdini.

The fifth album, Deadbeat, was last Friday.

So for the second last Friday Flash(back) for 2025, Tame Impala are a cracker! So excited for this. Take a listen to some old and new cuts from Kevin Parker. Until tomorrow!

(Pre) Friday Flash(back)

Peter Kenneth Murray, otherwise simply known as Pete Murray is one of the final Friday Flash(back)'s for 2025!

Murray has had three albums reach number 1 on the Australian (ARIA) charts. Murray has received 17 ARIA nominations throughout his career so far.

He has sold over 1.2 million albums in Australia.

In early 2003, Murray signed a contract with Sony BMG and he entered the studio with producer Paul McKercher and his band (consisting of Ben McCarthy on bass guitar and keyboards, Christian Sargeant on drums, Paul Tyrell on guitar and Col McIntyre on reeds & flute) to make the Feeler album.

Feeler was released on 21 July 2003 with the title track as the first single.

Triple J radio started playing the track with the Nova FM and Triple M networks picking it up. With this support, Feeler entered the ARIA top 50 album charts in 2003. His reputation was building fast and he started selling out shows in smaller venues.

So Beautiful was released in January 2004, reaching the top ten. This spurred sales of the album driving it to number one on the Australian album charts in late March 2004 and six times platinum status. By 2008, the album had sold half-a-million copies.

Last Friday Murray released his seventh record, Longing. This is his first record since 2017's Camacho. Tomorrow return to stream the record, in the meantime, some old and new tunes are featured below.

(Pre) Friday Flash(back)

Richard Paul Ashcroft the English musician, singer/ songwriter, formed the alternative rock band the Verve in 1990.

Following the Verve's disbandment in 1999, Ashcroft embarked on a successful solo career, releasing six UK top-three solo albums, including Alone with Everybody, Keys to the World and These People . The Verve reformed briefly in 2007 and disbanded again in 2009. That was quick! However they did just tour in the UK with Oasis, yes Oasis! Who are headed here with Ball Park Music. More on Oasis below. It explains why the Gallaghers choose them as their support act.

Ashcroft's songwriting has been commended by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors twice with an Ivor Novello Award.

The Verve's Urban Hymns is one of the UK's best-selling albums of all time.

Ashcroft's work has influenced artists such as Oasis, Coldplay, and the Britpop and indie rock genres.

Noel Gallagher of Oasis described Ashcroft as a "genius", & Chris Martin of Coldplay called him "the best singer in the world".

Tomorrow, Ashcroft will release his seventh studio album, Lovin' You.

Album of the Year Nomination #3 - Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer

Following PinkPantheress and Addison Rae back in June, it's time for the third Album of the Year Nomination for 2025! The third Album of the Year Nomination also happens to be from a Central Coast dance queen.

So ahead of the long weekend, let's start dancing early!

I Love My Computer is the debut studio album by Ninajirachi.

The album was released back in August, however its been a real grower! From iPod Touch to the latest single, It's You, I Love My Computer 100% banger!

Influenced by electronic music Wilson listened to during childhood, including older Australian dance music as well as the genres of trance and complextro.

Recently came the 2025 ARIA Music Awards nominations. The album was nominated for Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Breakthrough Artist, Best Dance/Electronic Release, Best Independent Release, Best Cover Art, Best Engineered Release and Best Produced Release. Scoring a total of eight nominations, Ninajirachi leads the nominations.

The first single from the record, was All I Am, followed by the semi title track, Fuck My Computer.

iPod Touch was released as the third single back in June, followed by Infohazard  and lastly, It's You.

The Kincumber local is one of Australia's best dance artists. After seeing her earlier this year whip up the crowd at Laneway, she is also awesome live.

If you get a spare 40 minutes this long weekend, give I Love My Computer a listen. You won't regret it!

The band rose to fame in 1997 after the release of their EP Second Solution / Prisoner of Society, which peaked at No. 4 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart.

And tomorrow the group release I Only Trust Rock n Roll, their ninth studio album. Two of which reached the No. 1 spot on the ARIA Albums Chart: The Living End (October 1998) and State of Emergency (February 2006).

(Pre) Friday Flash(back)

John Charles Wiltshire-Butler AKA John Butler, is an American-Australian singer, songwriter, and music producer.

John is best known for his time as the eponymous frontman of the John Butler Trio, a roots rock and jam rock band that formed in Perth Fremantle, Western Australia in 1998.

The John Butler Trio recorded five studio albums, including three that reached number one on the Australian charts: Sunrise Over Sea, Grand National and April Uprising.

Butler was born in the United States and moved to Australia at an early age. He began playing the guitar at the age of sixteen.

In 2002, Butler, along with several partners, formed their own record label Jarrah. He is also the co-founder of The JB Seed, a grant program that seeks to improve artistic diversity in Australia.

Recently released PRISM, is the third entry in the WA-based artist's ongoing Four Seasons album concept, which began with last year's ambient ode to healing, Running River, and instrumental reset Still Searching.

With the release of PRISM, John has a celebrated career spanning over three decades, Butler's latest album is a humble reminder that there's always horizons to expand and mistakes to be learned from.

As environmentally and politically active as ever, Butler's principles are still at the core of his music.

Butler's wife of 25 years Danielle Caruana, professionally known as Mama Kin, serves as the muse behind PRISM's most obvious singles.

Butler is about to hit the road, so for all the tour dates, click here.

A few more weeks of the Friday Flash(back), before the 2025 season finale.

(Pre) Friday Flash(back)

Cut Copy the synth-pop group formed in 2001 by Dan Whitford (vocals, keyboards and guitar). Originally a home-recording project, the band now includes Tim Hoey (guitars), Ben Browning (bass guitar), and Mitchell Scott (drums).

The band achieved breakthrough success in 2008 with their second album, In Ghost Colours, which included well-known singles Lights & Music & Hearts on Fire.

Last Friday the Melbourne band gave us their seventh record, Moments. Cut Copy were one of my Homebake highlights from yester-year.

Back in the festival hey day, Homebake kicked off the festival season with an all Australian (occasional NZ group, also the one random year Blondie headlined) line up. Cut Copy slayed the dance tent back in the day.

The group take 80's dance pop to new levels.

So ahead of streaming their latest record tomorrow, let's go old school to remember the wonders of Cut Copy!

(Pre) Friday Flash(back)

DUMB is a collaborative album by Australian singer-songwriter Emma Louise & Flume. The album was released late last month.

Upon announcement, Emma Louise said "The title Dumb is loaded with weight for me... At first, naming the album Dumb felt irreverent and freeing, but later I realised how deeply it connected to my own fear of being seen as stupid and unworthy. This album is me reclaiming that word, letting go of shame, and promising myself I'll never abandon my voice again."

Flume and Emma Louise have previously collaborated on the 2022 track Hollow, from Flume's third studio album Palaces.

The lead single Easy Goodbye was released in mid-July.

Shine, Glow, Glisten was released ahead of the album alongside its video, directed by Jonathan Zawada. The third single is Monsoon, with its music video being directed by Jonathan Zawada and Michael Hili.

Both Emma Louise & Flume are Aussie icons. Making them perfect for my Friday Flash(back) weekly feature. Emma Louise burst onto the scene with Jungle, while Flume has given us multiple instant classic singles, even winning a Hottest 100. Flume has worked with countless artists, so a collaborative album feels so right from these two.

I am excited to share the album with you tomorrow, while today having a deeper dive into some of their new work and classics. Of course including Jungle. I've seen Flume live a few times, but need to see Emma Louise live. Bring on my outing to North East Party House next month for their farewell tour.

Speaking of farewells. There are not too many more Friday Flash(back)'s for 2025. However, over the next few weeks, there are some gems! So look out!

(Pre) Friday Flash(back)

Alison Elizabeth Margaret Goldfrapp the English musician and record producer, known as the vocalist of English electronic music duo Goldfrapp. Is this weeks Friday Flash(back), while being the youngest of six children. Her mother, Isabella Barge, was a nurse. Her father, Nicholas Goldfrapp, had been an army officer, and worked in advertising. Goldfrapp's surname is of German origin.

While Alison was growing up, her family moved frequently, eventually settling in Alton, Hampshire, where Alison attended the independent Alton Convent School. She sang in a choir at the school and has said that she loved being in a school with nuns.

She moved into a squat in London aged 16, then lived in Belgium for a brief time. Four years later, she went to art school, where she started experimenting with music.

In January 2023, Goldfrapp confirmed she would be releasing her first music as a solo act under her name. That month, her collaboration track with Claptone, "Digging Deeper", was released. The next month, Goldfrapp released "Fever" with Paul Woolford.

Then in March, she announced her debut solo album, The Love Invention, which was released on 12 May 2023.

Goldfrapp described the album as "my tribute to the dance floor". The lead single, So Hard So Hot, was released alongside the announcement on 16 March.

The album reached no.6 in the UK Album charts (matching previous Goldfrapp albums Head First and Silver Eye). It was followed in 2024 by the companion remix album The Love Reinvention.

On 24 July 2024, Goldfrapp announced that she had launched her own record label, A.G Records; its first release was the standalone single I Wanna Be Loved (Just a Little Better).

On 30 April 2025, Goldfrapp released a single titled Find Xanadu. Alongside it, she announced the release of her second studio album, titled Flux, which the single is part of. The album was put up for pre-order, while its cover, release date and track list were made public.

In May this year, Alison started a ten-night UK & Republic of Ireland tour with Scissor Sisters. On 21 May 2025, Goldfrapp released second single Reverberotic from her forthcoming album Flux. The song premiered on BBC Radio 6 by Lauren Laverne.

Prelude Press described Reverberotic as "a pulsating and hallucinogenic fever dream which distills the euphoric synth pop at the heart of Flux, blending visceral emotion with hyper-futuristic production…"

The third single titled Sound & Light from last week's album Flux was released mid-June.

According to Goldfrapp, “Sound & Light” comes based on a lifelong dream of hers. “I’d been chasing the Northern Lights for years,” she says. “I’d gone to Finland, Iceland and Norway but never managed to catch them.” She states the song was inspired by the sights, and her own “fantasy” of the stunning natural phenomenon, which she had longed to see her whole life.

By some stroke of luck, Goldfrapp states that the very evening she began work on the track, she had been able to witness the lights, as if the song itself brought them out.

Until tomorrow, here are some solo gems, along with some classic Goldfrapp dance floor fillers! Remember when Goldfrapp were also mega mellow? How Alison has changed, shaped the future of music!
