Kelis at Sydney's Hi-Fi

Back in 1999 I remember discovering Kelis with that killer jam "Caught Out There", with that massive chorus, I Hate You So Much Right now. This track was left of the set list however from her debut Kaleidoscope Kelis did throw together a mash up of some of her old faithful "Get Along with You" & "Good Stuff". For good measure she also threw in "Glow" from the 2003 Tasty.

The set featured a number of tunes from her latest release Food and even a few of the more dance orientated Flesh Tone.

Kelis has travelled a long musical road and showed us she can mix it with the Neptunes, David Guetta and TV on the Radio man Dave Sitek. She has featured on hits from Calvin Harris to Diddy & Timo Maas.

Kelis however live was spectacular. I saw her at the final Good Vibrations festival around the release of Flesh Tone. So last time in the Summer rain in February was a very different experience to this Splendour side show.

From the hits like Millionaire, Bounce, Milkshake, Jerk Ribs and Rumble Kelis did a really amazing best of set and showcased her range of tunes from over the years.

All her songs were mixed with the great band including horns and a divine back up singer. Kelis is at the top of her game and her latest album Food is truly one of the best releases of 2014. Rumble is one of the best songs of 2014 and I truly believe Kelis has real staying power. Looking back at 1999 to 15 years later and the new direction this fantastic vocalist has taken, everything feels right for Kelis, her fans love her, critics are in love with her new music and I think she sits well between Triple J and Double J playlists.

Australia seems to have fallen back in love with Kelis and this concert is truly one of the best gigs I have been to in a while. Her stage presence alone was enough to keep even the biggest Facebook, Twitter, Instagram fan offline for a while and experience the true wonders of Kelis.
