Melissa Morrison Higgins or as she is known in the music biz as Missy Higgins, is an Australian singer-songwriter/musician and most importantly ICON!
I was lucky enough to see her at Sydney's brilliant new venue, the ICC in Darling Harbour. The area close by Darling Quarter behind China Town is honestly buzzing. This could be the buzz area of the CBD. Well done to all invovled.
Now to Missy. Playing at a venue in a busy, vibe of a precinct sets you up for a good night. Missy gave her ageing fans (that is me born a year earlier than Missy in 1982) a two act concert. How good. It was almost like a theatre show. With Missy completely engaging with the crowd for close to three hours. With a wee break in the middle.
Act One we heard new shows from the upcoming record, The Second Act. Act Two, we got the entire number-one debut album, The Sound of White from 2004.
Missy has given us other classic albums like On a Clear Night (2007), The Ol' Razzle Dazzle (2012), and Oz (2014).
Missy's new album is also going to be a heartbreaking record. With her divorce finalised, her two kids growing up, Missy told of the night of her break up. NYE 2021. You can view the clip of her playing live on the ABC the night of said break up.
The Sound of White is completely one of the most iconic Australian albums. With Scar, The Special Two, the title track, Ten Days and Triple J winning tune All for Believing all highlights from this incredible debut album.
Missy was so warm, so full of great stories. So on a high from a sold out 6,000 or more music lovers all loving the hits and memories. From Where I Stood to Tim Minchin joining on stage for Carry You from the Foxtel series, Upright.
This was honestly a great night out with live music in the middle of Winter 2024.
Higgins's sixth studio album, The Second Act will land early September. I for one am excited. She is totally a prime candidate for my new blog series, Friday Flash(back). So watch this space. For now Missy Higgins is 100% a live highlight for 2024 for me. That said I have seen, P!nk, Taylor Swift, Fred Again, Rudimental, Becky Hill, so yeah its been a good year for live music.
Next month I will see Northeast Party House. Hopefully later in the year, I will see the homecoming show for Confidence Man. Live music, yep, I love it!
