3000 Feet High is the latest in my Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! series. It's been a minute since the last post featuring one of these amazing 100 Australian albums.
Tonight you get a killer throwback Thursday release.
Back in 2001 Paul Mac released on August 2001, his biggest record to date 3000 Feet High. The album peaked at No. 29 in Australia, while being nominated for three ARIA Music Awards, winning Best Dance Release.
In June 2001 (ahead of the album release) he released his highest charting single, Just the Thing featuring vocals by Peta Morris. Who he continued to work with on a number of other tracks.
It reached No. 17 on the ARIA Singles Chart while at the APRA Music Awards of 2002 it won Most Performed Dance Work.
In the Mix said 3000 Feet High is "a feast of eclectic sounds with its machinery-like clicks and beeps. It's quirky and funky and something that stays with you".
The album featured a pile of great guests. From Tex Perkins to Leonardo's Bride's Abby Dobson. Along with (of course) Peta Morris and Jacqui Hunt.
I remember seeing Paul Mac live at Good Vibrations festival following this album release. He put on a sensational show whilst even now this is still a go to record.
As we head to the second half of the albums expect a few more features in coming weeks.
