Album of the Year Nomination #2 - Flume - Skin

Two albums this month (both Australian) have now been announced as this years potential Album of The Year for 2016.

Flume has had a monster 2016 and builds on his near perfect solid debut album.

Hailing from the Northern beaches of Sydney Flume is one talented 24 year old. With Never Be Like You easily the biggest Australian (if not overall) single of 2016 thus far. Teaming up with Canadian singer Kai this has been a monster anthem. Selling in excess of 210,000 copies in Australia alone and across the ditch in New Zealand the song has gone on to two times platinum and peaked at Number 7.

Smoke and Retribution was our next very different taste and this time featuring a local Kucka (simply amazing BTW) and Vince Staples. This track was an instant hit on my iPhone and a radio smash across Australia. Peaking at number 23 in Australia.

Say It with Tove Lo hit the airwaves and became a third instant hit and went on to sell Gold and peak at Number 7.

This Friday Flume will score his second number one record for sure.

Flume, easily one of the biggest acts in the world right now and selling out large stadium tours nationwide, what a brilliant local success story. Here's to my second album of the year nomination for 2016.

Sunday Spotlight: Radiohead

Releasing their ninth studio album very early on Monday morning (Australian time) Radiohead continue to explode all over the internet just as much as the latest Trump gaff.

The hype was huge and well deserved throughout the week this was my soundtrack to commuting Redfern to Kings X. Such a chilled album and for two weeks and both being surprise releases makes this a bit of a Sunday thing. James Blake was outstanding last week and this week it's a look at the amazing career of Radiohead going back to their first record in 1993.

Hello Sunday, hello time to chill...

Let's break up the Paul Dempsey fest with the third surprise album in almost as many weeks. Radiohead gave us a 4am ninth studio album that blew up the internet and blew music fans minds worldwide.

With two singles and videos ahead of the release the excitement built quickly. After a long five year break since The King of Limbs, it appears to be worth the fans wait.

It's time to chill on Sunday with the latest surprise album from James Blake. The Colour in Anything is his third record, following on from his self titled debut which earnt a Mercury Prize nomination. In 2013 he took out the Mercury Prize for his second full length Overgrown.

He teamed up with Beyonce on her recent surprise release. So it seems like he took listens from the best. Today it's time to hear some new and old sounds from James Blake.

Album of the Year Nomination #1 - Sia - This is Acting

It's been a long time since our last album of the year unveil and it's a great pleasure to announce this month we will have not one but two album of the year nods.

First up from Adelaide and now calling the US home, SIA and her 7th studio record THIS IS ACTING.

This album has been a hit since it was revealed Sia was releasing an album of off cuts, songs she wrote for others, kept for herself (after they were rejected) and now this is easily her most successful release.

Our past album of the year record from Sia 1,000 Forms of Fear set Sia up for a new high and this just continued to shoot Sia to the stars.

The first single Alive released 2015 was a monster smash across the globe and selling platinum is Australia. The second single showed Sia wasn't just a one single per record girl with Cheap Thrills again rising the bar.

Cheap Thrills was a smash in Europe making it to number one in France, Germany and Sweden.

The four promo singles from the album all charted across the globe too. Whilst Rihanna struggled to shift units of Anti, Sia's track written for Rih Rih was a hot radio track across the globe. She brought Sean Paul back into the spotlight with a reworking of the track.

Sia has been a feature on this BLOG both Australian Music Months and right now Sia is smoking hot. After a HUGE live show at Coachella and a movie (Sister) on the way, Sia is at the top of her game.

It will be hard for the ARIA's to ignore the almighty force of Sia this year and I cannot wait to see what Sia has lined up for the future.

Sia, This is Acting, it's a PERFECT POP record and a good way to end POP Week. Well done Sia, the first Album of the Year for 2016 nomination. Stay tuned another Album of The Year nomination on the way.
