Sunday Spotlight: Frenzal Rhomb

Frenzal Rhomb, where on Earth do I start, they have been around for decades (it feels) and been on many a festival line up.

Frenzal not only dominated Triple J with their music in the late 90's early 2000's but band members dominated shows on the station for the better and worse.

Frenzal Rhomb on Friday released their ninth studio album Hi-Vis High Tea, their first since 2011.

They released their debut record Coughing Up a Storm all the way back in 1995 and the band still has a strong and loyal following hence today's Sunday Spotlight (the last for a month or so) belongs to the boys from Sydney.

Let's have a look/listen to some of the highlights from their career to date.

Sunday Spotlight: Blink 182

Blink 182 has been around for years and their seventh studio album originally came out in July 2016 however a bonus disc came just this Friday gone.

California was a bit of a rebirth for the band and a return to fame. Bored to Death was a popular hit and the new Blink 182 Hoppus, Barker & Skiba were back to where they were at the height of All the Small Things fame.

I remember seeing Blink 182 at a Big Day Out in the late 90's and honestly this band was huge back in the day, and it's great to see a band from my youth make a great comeback. So it's Sunday and what better band to kick back with and watch some truly epic music videos. It's Blink time bitches.

The Sunday Spotlight will also take a break next month as I feature a month of Winter music lists on Sunday. I will also have a Queen of a month on Randy Andy's Blog. My other blog.

EP Feature Week (2) 2017: AMY SHARK {Night Thinker}

It's mid way through May and I have featured 100% Australian music from feature albums to Sunday Spotlights and I am proud to keep this going today before tomorrow we head to LA via Britain for a terrific solo artist.

Today however let's check in with local Amy Shark from the Gold Coast. Her single Adore reached number two last year with the Triple J Hottest 100.

Adore has gone onto sell over 140,000 copies Australia wide. Her EP Night Thinker features some terrific tunes including Weekends and a guest rap from Allday.

Lena Dunham may have wrapped up Girls but even she is a fan of the Gold Coast singer songwriter. Amy is also selling out dates right across this fine brown land, see the details HERE.

Sunday Spotlight: Pond

I am surprised Pond are already up to studio album number seven.

On May 5th Pond released The Weather a just under forty minute psychedelic rock album producer by super producer and former member Kevin Parker.

Since 2009 Pond have been giving Tame Impala and music fans alike music to smoke weed by and also to have supersonic headphone experiences.

Pond members form up Tame Impala, solo careers, GUM and more. This is one talented group from Perth and together as Pond they are one of the West's biggest exports. Internationally adored let's take some time this Sunday to chill with one of Perth's best.

Next Week, it's EP Feature Week 2017, Take Two

Next week we are getting all fired up for another week of outstanding EP's. Recently I featured a week long celebration of all things Extended Play, next week we will have another look into the world of "mini albums".

So many tasty EP's have just landed including singer/songwriter outta Sydney Dean Lewis, Nick Murphy FKA as Chet Faker and New Kids on the Block. Yes New Kids on the Block. That said I will not be featuring their EP.

So come by next week, each day (including weekends) a new EP will be on display. Tomorrow pop by for some psychedelic rock from Perth's Pond.

Did I also say apparently Pharrell Williams and Kaytranada are making an EP together, as Paris Hilton would famously say THAT'S HOT

Sunday Spotlight: Bliss N Eso

Bliss n Eso have been kicking around in Sydney since 2000 and have brought us some of Australian hip hops biggest releases. And they have just released their sixth full length studio record Off the Record.

The boys will again hit the road and showcase this new record and there biggest hits. They have had a number of issues in the past with social media and "those photos" and the recent shooting at a music video shoot. It hasn't been an easy road but the boys are some of the hardest working in the Australian music scene.

Like the Hilltop Hoods these boys reached their peak a little while back but continue to pack a decent sized venue in the major cities of Australia.

It's Sunday so let's take a break from Airling's dreamy debut, our feature this week and jump into some Aussie hip hop fresh out of Sydney - AKA Sin City!
