Sunday Spotlight: Tori Amos

Myra Ellen Amos aka Tori Amos gave us her 16th studio record on Friday. Being Halloween its sorta fitting we feature an artist with a classic voice. Ms Tori Amos is your final Sunday Spotlight for October 2021. Hello November 2021, the final four weekends of Sunday Spotlights.

Amos is classically trained musician with a mezzo-soprano vocal range. Amos was the lead singer of the short-lived 1980s pop group Y Kant Tori Read before achieving her breakthrough as a solo artist in the early 1990s.

Tori's songs focus on a broad range of topics, including sexuality, feminism, politics, and religion. Her most popular songs to date are Cornflake Girl, Professional Widow (that REMIX), Spark and A Sorta Fairytale.

Amos has received five MTV VMA nominations and eight Grammy Award nominations, and is listed on VH1's 1999 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll at number 71.

So if you are not too busy Trick or Treating, it's time to discover Tori Amos's latest album below. I also included some classic tunes, like Big Wheel and Spark, which I personally love. Come back over the next four Sundays for the final four instalments of the Sunday Spotlight.

Sunday Spotlight: Lana Del Rey

Elizabeth Woolridge Grant AKA Lana Del Rey, has just given us her eighth studio album, Blue Banisters. On Friday we were given Del Rey's second album of 2021, following Chemtrails over the Country Club earlier in the year.

Lana's music is noted for its stylized, cinematic quality and exploration of themes of sadness, tragic romance, glamor, and melancholia, containing many references to pop culture, particularly 1950s and 1960s Americana.

Raised in upstate New York, Del Rey moved to New York City in 2005 to begin her music career.

Following numerous projects, including her self-titled debut studio album, Del Rey's breakthrough came with the viral success of her debut single Video Games in 2011.

Lana's major label debut, Born to Die was released in 2012. The album was an international success spawning the singles, Summertime Sadness, Blue Jeans & Born to Die.

Following Born to Die, Del Rey released the EP Paradise in 2012. In 2013, Del Rey ventured into film, writing and starring in the music short film Tropico; she also released Young and Beautiful as the lead single for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

Del Rey released her third album, Ultraviolence in 2014 to critical success.

Giving us tracks like West Coast, then came Honeymoon in 2015 and Lust for Life in 2017.

Her sixth album, Norman Fucking Rockwell! arrived in 2019. It received widespread critical acclaim and two Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year.

In 2019, Del Rey released the singles Doin' Time & Don't Call Me Angel. The latter being a collaboration with Ariana Grande & Miley Cyrus for the soundtrack of the Charlie's Angels reboot.

Lana's follow-up releases included the spoken word album and poetry collection, Violet Bent Backwards over the Grass in 2020.

Her accolades include two Brit Awards, two MTV Europe Music Awards, a Satellite Award, nine GAFFA Awards, six Grammy Award nominations and a Golden Globe nomination.

So if you have been living under a rock, it's time to discover Lana Del Rey as part of the Sunday Spotlight legends series. Good night Australia

Sunday Spotlight: Madonna

Madonna Louise Ciccone continues the run of LEGENDS as the Sunday Spotlight comes to a close late November, 2021.

Born August 16, 1958, 14 albums in, a new release Madame X, a documentary film chronicling the tour of the same name, on Paramount+ has just launched. So why not feature the Queen of Pop on the eve of FREEDOM DAY.

Madonna is noted for her continual reinvention and versatility in music production, songwriting, and visual presentation.

She is also known for pushing the boundaries of artistic expression in mainstream music, while maintaining control over every aspect of her career. Her works, which incorporate social, political, sexual, and religious themes, have generated both controversy and critical acclaim.

Madonna moved to New York City in 1978 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing as a drummer, guitarist, and vocalist in the rock bands Breakfast Club and Emmy, she rose to solo stardom with her debut studio album, Madonna in 1983.

She followed it with a series of successful albums, in 1982 with Like a Virgin, True Blue in 1986 although with The Immaculate Collection in 1990.

Into the 90's Madonna gave us Grammy Award winning albums, Ray of Light in 1998 along with  Confessions on a Dance Floor in 2005.

Madonna has amassed many number-one singles throughout her career, including Like a Virgin, La Isla Bonita, Like a Prayer, Vogue, Take a Bow, Frozen, Music, Hung Up and 4 Minutes.

Madonna has also featured in a number of big screen films like Desperately Seeking Susan, Dick Tracy, A League of Their Own and Evita.

As a businesswoman (the OG BOSS Bitch) Madonna founded the company Maverick in 1992.

This included Maverick Records, one of the most successful artist-run labels in history. Her other ventures include fashion brands, children's books, health clubs, and filmmaking. She contributes to various charities, having founded the Ray of Light Foundation in 1998 and Raising Malawi in 2006.

With sales of over 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is noted as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records.

She is the most successful solo artist in the history of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and holds the record for the most number-one singles by a female artist in Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

With a revenue of U.S. $1.5 billion from her concert tickets, she remains the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time. So what better artist to celebrate the end of an extended lockdown version 2.0 with. Enjoy MADONNA!
