Number 41 - Kate Miller-Heidke - Curiouser (2009) - Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

Kate Miller-Heidke delivered a solid second album with Curiouser. Following her divine debut Little Eve.

The first two singles, Can't Shake It and Caught in the Crowd received moderate success, while the third single The Last Day on Earth went on to become her first Australian top ten single, peaking at No. 3 on the ARIA singles chart.

The album went on to become one of the most critically applauded albums of 2008 and is Miller-Heidke's first platinum-selling album.

The Last Day on Earth is still to this day Miller-Heidke's biggest single.

Miller-Heidke explains the album's title: Mickey (Petralia) thought "Curiouser" was a noun, something that made you more curious," she said. "That's what made up my mind about the title. Wouldn't it be great if people listened to this album and it made them curiouser?".

This is one of my favourite records from Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! (Part Three - 50-26). It's hard to believe we are almost in the top 40 Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

Next month some of the final 40 albums will be featured on this blog. Until tomorrow, the 301st Fresh Friday Countdown! See you then!

Number 55 - Paul Mac - 3000 Feet High (2001) - Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

3000 Feet High is the latest in my Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! series. It's been a minute since the last post featuring one of these amazing 100 Australian albums.

Tonight you get a killer throwback Thursday release.

Back in 2001 Paul Mac released on August 2001, his biggest record to date 3000 Feet High. The album peaked at No. 29 in Australia, while being nominated for three ARIA Music Awards, winning Best Dance Release.

In June 2001 (ahead of the album release) he released his highest charting single, Just the Thing featuring vocals by Peta Morris. Who he continued to work with on a number of other tracks.

It reached No. 17 on the ARIA Singles Chart while at the APRA Music Awards of 2002 it won Most Performed Dance Work.

In the Mix said 3000 Feet High is "a feast of eclectic sounds with its machinery-like clicks and beeps. It's quirky and funky and something that stays with you".

The album featured a pile of great guests. From Tex Perkins to Leonardo's Bride's Abby Dobson. Along with (of course) Peta Morris and Jacqui Hunt.

I remember seeing Paul Mac live at Good Vibrations festival following this album release. He put on a sensational show whilst even now this is still a go to record.

As we head to the second half of the albums expect a few more features in coming weeks.

Feastival - KFC Island - Sun 13 March

Music festivals are BACK! Well Feastival on the weekend was more like a sampler festival.

From 2pm to 7pm, the KFC Feastival was headlined by Peking Duk. With KFC/Peking Duk collaboration 'Peking Cluk Burger', which was also served all day for free!

Alongside Peking Duk, Baker Boy & Thandi Phoenix really slayed. Whilst the event was hosted by Triple J's Ebony Boadu, who also played some killer DJ sets. Even dropping 212 and Album of the Year queen, Ms Doja Cat.

On a good news front (we need some of that right now) with each ticket sold, KFC donated $5 to the KFC Youth Foundation which supports mental wellbeing in young Australians.

Love that.

Either way here are some mixed hits from the acts over the weekend. In all honesty this was a shit load of fun. So great to have live music back. With an added romantic feature of a ferry to and from Cockatoo Island's eastern apron.

Number 69 - Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours (2008) - Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

In Ghost Colours is the lucky record that landed at number 69! For the Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! Part Two of the list go HERE

This was the second studio album by Cut Copy. Released on 22 March 2008 by the once incredible Modular Recordings.

It comprises 15 tracks, including a re-recorded version of the single Hearts on Fire. The album was originally planned as an Australian release for 2007, but was delayed until 2008 to accommodate a simultaneous international release of the recording.

The album was produced in New York by Tim Goldsworthy, although the band's US label Interscope initially suggested they work with Timbaland.

It was the band's first entry into the Australian ARIA Albums Chart, reaching number one on 30 March 2008. Also the band's first entry on the Billboard 200, where it debuted at number 167.

With Mardi Gras on the weekend, the possibly the worst of the rain is over. Why not celebrate with some classic Australian music, right now! This is truly one of my favourite records of all time. LOVE IT! More classic Australian albums on the lead up to Anzac Day 2022. We have hit the 60's!
