Sunday Spotlight: Banks

Jillian Rose Banks aka Banks returned on Friday with her third record, III. Her brilliant debut album Goddess landed in 2014 followed on from her brilliant debut EP, Fall Over in 2013.

Hailing from Orange County Banks has been rather busy over recent months, sharing her second album The Altar with us in 2016 followed by some choice non album singles like Underdog and Crowded Places.

Banks has toured on the back of her two earlier albums and will shortly commence touring to support the release of III.

Banks is no stranger to Australia playing dates on her last The Altar run of tour dates, she has also played Laneway Festival in the past. Banks also joined The Weeknd as a support of two of his tours in 2013 and 2015.

There is no better artist to chill with on a Sunday than Banks, hooray for new music and a growing brilliant back catalogue. Stream or view some delightful Banks below, until next week...

Sunday Spotlight: Cassius

French duo Cassius were my heroes in the late 1990's when they released a brilliant album 1999. It came out around Australia Day, 1999 right in the middle of a hot as fuck Summer, this album was the perfect soundtrack to that Summer!

Unfortunately Philippe Zdar passed away two days before their album Dreems (stream below) was to be released. The 52 year old has been responsible for some more damn fine music, Double J did a beautiful tribute to the legend HERE.

Cassius have now called it quits, following Philippe Zdar AKA Philippe Cerboneschi sad passing. Hubert Blanc-Francard also known as Boombass announced once Dreems was released this would be the last record.

Prior to Dreems Cassius worked with Pharrell and Cat Power on their 2016 album Ibifornia whilst the group have been production work for Two Door Cinema Club, Franz Ferdinand, Phoenix, The Rapture, Cut Copy and more.

This is a bittersweet Sunday Spotlight, I have grown up listening to the group, saw them rise to fame with the 2002 The Sound of Violence.

So let's celebrate Philippe Cerboneschi with his amazing contribution to music below. These are truly some of the bess dance tunes to come out in the past 20 odd years.

RIP Philippe Cerboneschi.
