Streaming... NOW! | Key Releases, Friday 30 July, 2021

Well its really all about Billie Eilish this week. With her second album, Happier Than Ever, landing yesterday on all streaming services. It will of course be my feature record all next week. The album features a number of singles you may be familiar with, My Future, Therefore I Am, Your Power, Lost Cause and NDA.

Prince posthumously gives us Welcome 2 America. Recorded in 2010 before the “Welcome 2 America” Tour, the album “Welcome 2 America” documents Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice. It is the first full previously-unreleased studio album of Prince material to be released posthumously.

Finally two new EP's this week. One local and one outta the UK. Enjoy!

Skepta – ALL IN

Sycco – Sycco’s First EP

Sunday Spotlight: Clairo

Claire Elizabeth Cottrill is known as Clairo. Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Carlisle, Massachusetts, she began posting music on the internet at age 13.

Clairo rose to prominence following the viral success of the music video for her lo-fi single Pretty Girl in 2017. Clairo released her debut EP Diary 001 in 2018. Her debut studio album Immunity came out in 2019. The album received critical acclaim and spawned the singles Bags & Sofia.

Sofia became her first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Clairo's second album Sling was released on July 16. It's the perfect album to stream this second lockdown. I have also included a number of older videos below for you to get into for your Sunday.

Clairo has also teamed up with electronic acts such as Mura Masa and SG Lewis. This showcases her diversity while showing off her vocals with a different beat to hits like Bags.

So enjoy its a windy old Sunday, so turn up Clairo and get back under the blankets.

Album of the Year Nomination #3 - Tones and I - Welcome To The Madhouse

It's the year of the ladies 2021 with the third album of the year going to a solo female artist. More impressing, it's the second Australian Album of the Year nomination for 2021. Welcome Tones and I to the Album of the Year race for 2021.

Following her killer EP The Kids are Coming, Tones and I finally has given us a solid debut record. Featuring the big singles Fly Away and Cloudy Day as well as Won't Sleep, Welcome To The Madhouse is filled to the brim with catchy pop tunes.

Tones and I joins Amy Shark and Olivia Rodrigo for this years Album of 2021. Like 2020 it's been a tough year (already). So bright pop sounds like Tones and I is very welcome right now.

The album landed at just the right time as Sydney and Melbourne, Australia's two biggest states right now continue to be locked down.

So if you need three albums to listen to, Tones and I, Amy Shark's and Olivia Rodrigo's are must listens.

Take a listen to an in depth, deep dive into Tones and I's debut HERE whilst streaming it below. The next Album of the Year nomination might be just around the corner!

Sunday Spotlight: Chet Faker

Nicholas James Murphy is often known as Chet Faker. In 2012, as Chet Faker, he issued an extended play, Thinking in Textures, this included the classic cover of Blackstreet's No Diggity.

Following the debut EP, in April 2014, Built on Glass, his debut studio album, was released to generally positive reviews and debuted at number one on the Australian ARIA Charts.

Back in September 2016, Murphy dropped the Chet Faker name, releasing two albums alongside the brilliant Missing Links EP.

In October 2020, Murphy revived Chet Faker commencing work on releasing his Hotel Surrender record. First up was the single, Low. The album was released on Friday alongside Tones and I's big debut album. So sadly the album will probably not get the attention it may deserve. However its here, we have time, so get around the new ten track record below.

Its an all Australian feature week this week, into next with DZ Deathrays, Chet Faker today and tomorrow Tones and I. Gosh there is some EPIC Aussie music in 2021! Look forward to the ARIA nominations for 2021.

Sunday Spotlight: Naidoc Week 2021

Heal Country, it's Naidoc Week 2021.

This Sunday (we had a belated Spotlight the last few weeks) lets celebrate our best local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

The acronym NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. It has its roots in the 1938 Day of Mourning, becoming a week-long event in 1975.

So today is more of a mix tape, not so much a focus on one particular artist. However I am heavily focusing on this year's NIMA nominees.

Heal Country, heal our nation.
