Friday Feature: Meg Mac

Megan Sullivan McInerney is this week's Friday Feature, Meg Mac.

Mac started developing her singing as soon as she could speak. Mac started writing songs as a teen.

She began a degree in Digital Media but soon quit this after she moved to Perth to study music at the WA Academy of Performing Arts. After completing her degree, she recorded Known Better and submitted it to Triple J's Unearthed program.

At this point, she decided to move from Perth to Melbourne and left on a road trip with a car load of friends. It was during this trip as they were approaching Melbourne that she discovered that Triple J were planning to play her song that evening.

Meg Mac was educated at The McDonald Performing Arts College in Sydney Australia.

Mac returned after a break from music with Is It Worth Being Sad in March followed by her third studio album Matter of Time released a few Friday's ago.

The album features Is It Worth Being Sad, On Your Mind, Only Love, Letter & Understand.

So to unwind into the next upcoming long weekend, discover or rediscover some Meg Mac on your headphones.

Next up on the Friday Feature, Mura Musa coming at ya! Until then, enjoy the long weekend. It's double demerits again!!

Friday Feature: Ari Lennox

Flashing off the Record is BACK! With a new end of year series, the Friday Feature. Episode two is all about Courtney Shanade Salter AKA Ari Lennox.

Born March 26, 1991, a 90's RnB baby! Lennox hails from Washington, D.C, while being the first female artist to be signed to J. Cole's record label, Dreamville Records.

Lennox began gaining recognition after the release of her debut EP, Pho in 2016.

Also in 2016, Lennox made an uncredited guest appearance on Cole's song "Change".

The debut studio album Shea Butter Baby landed in 2019.

Lennox recently released her second record, Age/Sex/Location. Featuring the singles, Hoodie, Pressure and Queen Space with Summer Walker. This us her second hook up with Summer Walker, following Unloyal in 2021.

So if you are keen on some super smooth RnB this sort of long weekend, ahead of another long weekend. Ari Lennox is totally for you. More Friday Features to come before another long, wet, maybe hot girl summer?

Flashing OFF the Record is BACK!

Yeah baby. After a winter hiatus with the odd feature here, most on my other blog. It's time to get back into the best new music. Stop hiding under the blankets, get out and experience some ace new tunes. In November I will be off to Spilt Milk festival in Canberra, which I am super pumped for. In the meantime, the Album of the Week returns on Mondays (sometimes Sunday's) along with the new series Friday Feature. Which will clearly land on Fridays.

This week it's all been about What So Not. Emoh Instead AKA Christopher John Emerson released his second big album last Friday. The album follows his 2018 debut, Not all the Beautiful Things.

On the record you get some DMA's, Oliver Tree & Killer Mike, Evan Giia and more. Tomorrow I will feature the second Friday Feature. This week's its Ari Lennox.

Now to soundtrack your bonus public holiday, here are some highlights from the 2023 Laneway Festival line up.

Friday Feature: YUNGBLUD

The Sunday Spotlight concluded late November, 2021. In 2022 I am bringing the Friday Feature to Friday's for the next few months.

Shining the spotlight on some of the biggest acts releasing EPIC albums before 2022 comes to a close.

The first Friday Feature is a little late (blame the Sydney Fringe Festival) this week, however next week, I look forward to bringing you another artist, promptly on Friday.

For now edition one for 2022 shines the light on Dominic Richard Harrison.

The his real name may not be familiar (unless you're a fan of course), so Dominic is professionally as YUNGBLUD (pronounced Youngblood).

The English singer, just released his third self-titled record recently. It's also the feature album this week on Triple J.

At 25 YUNGBLUD has given us multiple singles, three albums, whilst reaching number one in the UK and Australia with his new record.

YUNGBLUD has collaborated with loads of big acts including Halsey, Travis Barker, Denzel Curry, Marshmello, Bring Me The Horizon and more.

So get into some YUNGBLUD below. It's the weekend, a short week is incoming in Australia, so either find your new favourite YUNGBLUD song or discover him for the first time. Until next time!
