After releasing her debut EP, Oh the Places You'll Go (2020), she rose to prominence with the viral success of her song "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" on TikTok in 2021.

In 2022, she signed with Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records, through which she released her sophomore EP, She/Her/Black Bitch, and was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award.

Doechii raised in Tampa, Florida, where she attended Howard W. Blake High School in Tampa and grew up doing ballet, tap dancing, acting, cheerleading, and gymnastics.

She first started making music in 2015, and released her debut song "Girls" on SoundCloud in 2016 as Iamdoechii. Her project, Coven Music Session, Vol. 1, was released in 2019.

Doechii's debut EP, Oh the Places You'll Go, was self-funded and released in 2020.

It was described by Rolling Stone as a mix of pop, dance, and hip hop. "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake", a single from the EP released in September 2020, was inspired by her reading The Artist's Way and went viral on TikTok in 2021, earning her attention from record labels.

Coachella Line Up FEATURE WEEK 2023 - BLɅϽKPIИK

DAY TWO: BLɅϽKPIИK (Korean: 블랙핑크; RR: Beullaekpingkeu, stylized in all caps or as BLɅϽKPIИK).

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa are BLɅϽKPIИK.

The group debuted in August 2016 with their single album Square One, which featured Whistle and Boombayah, their first number-one entries on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart and the US Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, respectively.

Referred to as the "biggest girl group in the world", Blackpink is the most successful Korean girl group internationally.

They are the highest-charting female Korean act on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 13 with "Ice Cream" (2020), and on the Billboard 200, peaking at number one with their second studio album Born Pink (2022), which is the best-selling album of all time by a Korean girl group and the first to sell over two million copies.

They were the first girl group to top the Billboard Artist 100 and the first Korean girl group to enter and top the Billboard Emerging Artists chart.

Blackpink also became the first female Korean act to receive a certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with their single "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" (2018), whose music video was the first by a Korean group to surpass one billion and two billion views and is currently the most-viewed by a Korean group on YouTube.

Their 2018 song Kiss and Make Up, a collaboration with Dua Lipa, was the first by a Korean group to receive a certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and a platinum certification from the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).

The group's debut studio album, The Album, (2020), was the first album by a Korean girl group to sell more than one million copies and the highest-charting female Korean album on the Billboard 200 at the time, at number two, both records surpassed by Born Pink.

Born Pink was the first album by a K-pop girl group to reach number one on the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart; the album's lead single "Pink Venom" (2022) was the first song by a K-pop group to top the ARIA Singles Chart and the first song by a girl group to top the Billboard Global 200.

Blackpink has broken numerous online records throughout their career. Their music videos for "Kill This Love" (2019) and "How You Like That" (2020) each set records for the most-viewed music video within the first 24 hours of release, with the latter breaking three and setting two Guinness World Records.

They are the first music group and Korean female act to have five music videos accumulate one billion views each on YouTube; the most-subscribed music act on the platform and the first to reach 80 million subscribers; and the most-followed girl group on Spotify.

Their other accolades include the New Artist of the Year Award at the 31st Golden Disc Awards and the 26th Seoul Music Awards, the MAMA Award for Best Female Group in 2020 and 2022, the first MTV Music Video Award won by a Korean girl group, and recognition as the first female Korean group on Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia.

They have been acknowledged as one of the most powerful celebrities in South Korea by Forbes Korea (placing first in 2019, third in 2020, and second in 2021) and by former South Korean President Moon Jae-in as a global K-pop phenomenon helping spread K-pop content worldwide.

Coachella Line Up FEATURE WEEK 2023 - Rosalía

DAY ONE: Rosalia Vila Tobella AKA Rosalía (Spanish: [rosaˈli.a], Catalan: [ruzəˈli.ə]).

Born and raised in the outskirts of Barcelona, she has been described as an "atypical pop star" due to her genre-bending musical styles.

After being enthralled by Spanish folk music at age 13, she studied musicology at Catalonia College of Music while also performing at musical bars and weddings.

She completed her studies with honors by virtue of her collaborative cover album with Raül Refree, Los Ángeles (2017), and the baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018).

Reimagining flamenco by mixing it with pop and hip hop music, it spawned the singles "Malamente" and "Pienso en tu Mirá", which caught the attention of the Spanish general public, and were released to universal critical acclaim.

Recipient of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year and listed in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the ascent of Rosalía into the international music scene.

Rosalía explored urbano music with her 2019 releases "Con Altura" and "Yo x Ti, Tú x Mí", achieving global success.

She gave reggaeton an experimental twist on her third studio album Motomami (2022), departing from the new flamenco sound of its predecessor.

The album caught international attention with its singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" and became the best reviewed album of the year on Metacritic.

Throughout her career, Rosalía has accumulated ten number-one singles in her home country, the most for a local artist. She has also won a Grammy Award, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year wins), four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among others.

In 2019, Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award for "changing the sound of today's mainstream music with her fresh flamenco-influenced pop", & became the first Spanish-singing act in history to be nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys.

Rosalía will be playing Coachella 2023. Check back all week for more Coachella acts. The feature album will return next week.

Kinder, Wafia, Northeast Party House | ELEVATE Sydney 2023

How did I sleep on free, live music in the heart of Sydney's CBD. Last year ELEVATE Sydney kicked off with Tones And I, Tim Minchin, Baker Boy, Electric Fields, Marcia Hines, Leo Sayer, The Wiggles and Ngaiire.

This year I was lucky to see Kinder, Wafia & Northeast Party House.

I love KINDER, their songs are the ultimate party starters. WAFIA I have loved since I first heard Heartburn back in 2015. NORTHEAST PARTY HOUSE also know how to party. I was happy to see them play recent hits Cranky Boy and Dominos.

ELEVATE Sydney is an absolutely AWESOME idea from Destination NSW. Bringing free, live music to the CBD, not only creates jobs on the day, money into businesses also sharing the Cahill Expressway which turns into a live music stage, but gives young people, families, the people of Sydney something to do.

Shame the weather Saturday night was beyond average. However for Kinder we got a perfect Saturday afternoon. So to celebrate the weekend's live music, here are some choice cuts from these killer local acts!

Did you miss the Album of the Year for 2022?

Well HERE it is, in all it's glory!

Of course it was SZA with SOS. Randomly years after release Ctrl came in at number 97 in the end of year album charts for 2022. Slightly down from 89 in 2021, even though in its year of release and three years after, it never charted. Weird right. The end of year album and singles charts were so disappointing for new music.

Maybe SOS will make the end of year wrap in 2027.

For now stream the album below. It's a damn fine summer listen!

Confidence Man

So for NYE this previous or current year (whatever way you want to look at it) I saw the wonderful Confidence Man from Brisbane, Queensland. Live at Luna Park, they honestly set the bar high for live music in 2023! Which in fact continues Saturday afternoon with Kinder.

Confidence Man released their debut album Confident Music for Confident People on 13 April 2018. They toured Europe extensively in the middle of the same year, with festival slots and a sell-out at London's Scala before returning to Australia for dates in September.

I hate Christmas songs, but my all time favourite is by this very band, Santa's Coming Down the Chimney released back in December 2018.

Janet Planet and Sugar Bones have the most energy of any live band I have ever seen! They are joined by Reggie Goodchild & Clarence McGuffie, who appear as masked figures, play keyboards and drums whilst Janet and Sugar Bones dance up an absolute storm.

With every song choreographed within an inch if it's life, the moves are super fun! Their second studio album, Tilt was released on 1 April 2022 and peaked at number 7 on the ARIA charts.

There is no better way to explain their live energy, than offer you up some of their live recordings below. If Confidence Man tour again soon, do anything to get a ticket, some fun active wear to go to the gig then bust a god damn move y'all!
