Album of the year for 2023 & the winner is.....

2023 saw another six Album of the Year nominations (same as 2022), but one album did stand above the other five. Something to Give Each Other is the third studio album by Troye Sivan. 

Released mid-October, this is Sivan's first album release in five years. A big follow up to 2018's Bloom.

This record only features one collaboration with Spanish singer and guitarist Guitarricadelafuente. A bit of a change of gears from Bloom which saw fellow Aussie Gordi on board along with superstar Ariana Grande.

The album has received universal acclaim from critics. 

We got the lead single Rush first off, where it topped the charts in Israel and entered the top ten in Ireland, Croatia, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, and Russia. The second single featured some old school Bag Raiders on Got Me Started.

The third single One of Your Girls, featured a now hot to trot music video. Well not as hot to trot as the Rush video. To be honest!

This has been Sivan's most commercially successful album, becoming his first album to top the ARIA chart, while reaching the top ten in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. 

The record also reached number one on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Rush was nominated for Best Pop Dance Recording and Best Music Video at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards as Sivan’s first nominations. The album was nominated for the 2023 Australian Music Prize.

With all this love for this record, it's no surprise the album is my Album of the Year for 2023. Now bring the tour down under please Troye! Like ASAP!

Album of the Year Nomination - PinkPantheress {HEAVEN KNOWS} Feature

Last but not least it's the 6th and final Album of the Year nomination.

Heaven Knows is the debut studio album by PinkPantheress, following her 2021 mixtape, To Hell with It.

Featuring the monster radio single, Boy's a Liar Pt. 2 with Ice Spice. While the latest track Nice to Meet You featuring Central Cee is absolute gold!

Producing duties on the album belong to Greg Kurstin, Mura Masa, Danny L Harle and more.

Album of the Year Nomination - Troye Sivan {SOMETHING TO GIVE EACH OTHER} Feature

The Album of the Year is only days away! Today is all about Something to Give Each Other, the third album by Troye Sivan. 

Clocking in at just over 30 minutes, this is the perfect album to bring in the new year!

Got Me Started (featuring that iconic Bag Raiders sample), is almost certain to play somewhere on NYE.

Something to Give Each Other landed as a nomination back in October. Ever since, the album has continue to win folks over. From the singles to the album tracks.

Album of the Year Nomination - Doja Cat {SCARLET} Feature

Doja Cat is no stranger to the Album of the Year prize. In 2021 the brilliant Planet Her record was easily my album of the year.

So Scarlet, the follow up record takes a different tone. However the lead, killer single, Paint the Town Red packs a massive punch.

There is also no guests on this record, but loads of pure fire!

Album of the Year Nomination - Olivia Rodrigo {GUTS} Feature

Happy Boxing Day, you made it through Christmas with the family - LOL

Nomination number three time. No stranger to the Album of the Year race, its Olivia Rodrigo  with her second record, GUTS. The original post when GUTS was nominated can be found HERE 

By now you would have heard all the singles, vampire, bad idea right? and get him back! These are all super catchy tracks. The album is 12 tracks, just over 39 minutes. It sure does pack a punch with the opener all-american bitch!

Album of the Year Nomination - Genesis Owusu {STRUGGLER} Feature

The Album of the Year is coming this weekend! Let's take a look at another nomination! Genesis Owusu's STRUGGLER record landed really soon after G Flip's DRUMMER album.

Like G Flip, this nomination landed late August when the Album of the Year race commenced for 2023. You can view the OG nomination here, while streaming the album below.

Album of the Year Nomination - G Flip {DRUMMER} Feature

Not long now until the Album of the Year for 2023 is unveiled. Will it be a local record like G Flip's Drummer? This was nomination numero uno back in August. You can view the OG post HERE.

No Album of the Week next week, so each day (or so) there are some random holiday days from tomorrow. I will look back at the big six nominees.

Pink Friday (OG) - Guests

Revisiting Pink Friday, the OG!

The feature album this week (Pink Friday 2,) is the sequel to the debut studio album by rapper Nicki Minaj.

Released back in November, 2010, Minaj enlisted a variety of producers whose efforts resulted in a primarily hip hop and pop record, which sees additional influences from R&B. 

Pink Friday features guests Eminem, Rihanna, Drake, will.i.am, Kanye West and Natasha Bedingfield. Not bad for a debut record.

The album gave us eight singles. Your Love, Check It Out, Right Thru Me, Moment 4 Life, Did It On'em, Girls Fall Like Dominoes, Fly, plus breakout single, Super Bass. 

Which peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and entered the top ten worldwide, while five other singles peaked within the top 40 on the Hot 100. 

Pink Friday debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, selling 375,000 copies in its first week.

Internationally, it also charted within the top 20 in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

As of February 2018, the album has sold two million traditional copies in the United States.

Pink Friday was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 54th Grammy Awards in 2012, alongside Minaj's other nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance for the single Moment 4 Life.

The weather is definitely warming up! I will keep blogging here and HERE however posts maybe a little more limited. I'm not sure about feature albums all over the holidays, however there will be (as usual) some keys dates.
