Number 76 - The Living End - State of Emergency (2006) - Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

State of Emergency is the final record as part of the Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! - Part One.

The fourth studio album by The Living End, released on 4 February 2006, debuting at number one on the Australian ARIA charts.

The record's first single was What's on Your Radio, was released in November 2005, ahead of the albums release.

The follow-up single, Wake Up was released on 18 February 2006, debuting at number 5 on the ARIA charts. Making it the highest single debut position of the band excluding the EP Second Solution / Prisoner of Society.

State of Emergency had officially achieved 2x platinum status. The album is the band's second highest selling, behind the efforts of their record-breaking debut album.

So we are 25% of the way through the Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! 75 incredible records still to be featured. Randomly over the next few weeks you will score multiple posts about these incredible records.

For now enjoy some Aussie rock from Melbourne's finest, The Living End.

Number 77 - The John Butler Trio - Grand National (2007) - Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

Grand National was the fourth album by the John Butler Trio. The album reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. Grand National was the 7th highest selling album in Australia in 2007, remaining in the ARIA top 20 album charts for over nine months.

The title of the album is derived from the antique dobro resophonic guitar that Butler inherited from his grandfather. In the 1920s the Dobro and National were competitors in the development of resonator or resophonic guitars, in 1934 they merged to form the National-Dobro Corporation, and hence the name of the album.

This marks the second last record in my series, Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! (Part One - 100-76). To celebrate I reckon tomorrow we feature fellow Aussie legendary group, The Living End with album number 76.

2007 was a great year for music, The John Butler Trio however really did own 2007. Riding on the success of earlier records whilst in 2008, saw JBT perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

I am loving reliving some classic Australian albums, come back tomorrow for more!

The album received nominations for ARIA Awards in five different categories in 2003, which included Album of the Year, Best Group & Best Rock Album.

Vulture Street also received the award for "Best Cover Art", which featured Czech supermodel Eva Herzigová.

The title of the album was taken from an iconic street in the inner southern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, the city in which all Powderfinger members grew up.

Number 90 - Machine Gun Fellatio - Paging Mr. Strike (2002) - Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

Concluding around Anzac Day, here is another in my series Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

Leaving the 90's its Paging Mr. Strike the second studio album by Machine Gun Fellatio.

The album was released on 26 August 2002, debuting at No.6 on the Australian Album Chart. The record spent a total of 27 weeks in the top 50, whilst being certified platinum.

It was re-issued on 7 March 2003 under the title 2nd Page for Mr. Strike, which included an extra disc with eight new tracks.

It was also released in the UK in 2003 by Doublethink Recordings, with a new track order and several tracks replaced by ones from the band's debut album, Bring It On!, which was never released internationally.

It's really hard to forget such epic hits as Pussy Town and Rollercoaster. What a record, what a way to get ready for the week. Hopefully we'll check in with some of the records that made it into the top 80, Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! You can view part one of the list HERE

Number 94 - Kylie Minogue - Light Years (2000) - Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW!

Randomly, from time to time over the next 100 days, I will post albums that made the classic, Best Australian albums of the 80's-NOW! list.

So today is a BIG one, Light Years is the seventh studio album by Australian singer Kylie Minogue.

Released it on 22 September 2000 following the commercial failure of Impossible Princess (1997), Minogue left Deconstruction Records and took a hiatus from recording music.

She signed with Parlophone in June 1999 and decided to return to her pop roots. She worked with various writers and producers, including Steve Anderson, Johnny Douglas, Robbie Williams, Guy Chambers, and Mark Picchiotti.

Music critics provided positive reviews, complimenting Minogue's return to pop despite them being ambivalent towards the lyrical content. Retrospectively, Light Years has been recognized as one of Minogue's strongest releases.

The album won the ARIA Award for Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release at the 2001 ceremonies. Light Years peaked in the top position on the Australian Albums Chart, Minogue's first number-one album in her native Australia. It reached the top 10 in Scotland, New Zealand, and on the UK Albums Chart.

Five singles were released from Light Years, including the Australia number-one singles Spinning Around, On a Night Like This, Kids & Please Stay.

The final single, Your Disco Needs You was only released in Australia and Germany. Light Years was further promoted with the On a Night Like This Tour, which visited Europe and Australia from March to May 2001.

The tour was the biggest by a solo artist in Australia, grossing U.S. $5 million. The album was re-issued in Europe in 2018 and returned to the UK Albums Chart and the Scottish Albums Chart.
