Courtney Love at Sydney's Enmore Theatre

WOW! Just wow is all I can say for starters. 1990's rocker and wife to the king of grunge Kurt Cobain Courtney Love served up a random night of rock, 90's nostalgia and hit after hit from her former (maybe they will get back together, or maybe not) Hole.

The room was filled with 90's music lovers, gays, lesbians and pretty much everything in between. It was a totally random crowd with some delicious random sprays from Love on stage out to Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, Nick Cave and everyone in between.

Her encore was a little random but after three chants of Courtney at the top of the Enmore Theatre's large crowd out she came in a new frock and baring roses.

Now blow by blow through the gig and what a gig it was...

"A Beautiful Mess" - SMH

Compared to Barbara Streisand - WTF - some gay blog

Photos galore

And now to my photo (well actually my date Suzi Q's - Thanks Suzi!):

The gig also got a wee mention and some tight photos posted on the Daily Mail in the UK, this was truly a gig to remember.

I loved all the tracks from the wonderful Hole record "Celebrity Skin" from it's title track to "Malibu", "Awful" to "Northern Star" and older songs like "Doll Parts"& "Miss World". Newer songs like "Skinny Little Bitch", "Wedding Day" & "You Know My Name" all went over well.

To say I almost lost my voice singing the Celebrity Skin hits, breathing in Courtney's smokes & the loud lesbians BO next me is an under statement.

My highlight for the night was catching a drumstick at the end of the gig and walking out thinking, fuck that was a gig, lady fights in front of me, 20 year old hit songs being sang out loud by a widely diverse group and a woman on stage who has seen a fuck load of shit. To use the words of Ms Love.

Cannot say how much I enjoyed this gig, god the gig I go to next has A LOT to live up to.

Courtney Love at the iconic Enmore Theatre an evening I will definitely remember, thank you Courtney XOXO

RE: Australian music is SUPER healthy right about now

Bernard Zuel over SMH doesn't seem to think Angus & Julia deserved there number one however he does like Chet Faker (one of the album of the year nominations for this very BLOG) and I must say this is the best cover of 2014 (thus far):

Good on you Chet Faker and the Album of the Year race is on for 2014. Who will take it out this year, Sia, Chet Faker or Pharrell? Time will tell and they may even be some more nominations to come, stay tuned to this very blog for more Album of the Year nominations and news.

The big reveal is on Boxing Day.

Australian music is SUPER healthy right about now

I am a regular reader of ARIA charts, UK singles and from time to time love to see what's making it big in the USA. However Saturday night I was super pumped to see three Australian albums 1, 2 & 3. And even better than just three Australian albums they are also all from Sydney. Let's take a quick peak at this week's high achieving records now:

1.

From Sydney's Northern Beaches via production from Rick Rubin it's Angus & Julia Stone. Their self titled third record heads straight to number one. Will their be another "Big Jet Plane" on this record?

2.

New Sydney Aussie super Hip Hop crew featuring members of Horrorshow, Spit Syndicate, Joyride & Jackie Onassis. Great effort from the crew at Elefant Traks. I am hoping for big things from this crew. Look out Hilltop Hoods and Bliss n Eso is all I can say.

3.

Sticky Fingers return with hits like "Gold Snafu" & "Just for You" on their new record "Land of Pleasure" and it debuts all the way up at number 3. Great effort from this local crew beating off the likes of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and many more.

Also doing well & flying the old musical Australian flag are:

SIA - 1,000 Forms of Fear @ 18 (Also and Album of the Year Nomination)
360 - Utopia @ 24
Dan Sultan - Blackbird @ 31
Chet Faker - Built on Glass @ 32 (Also and Album of the Year Nomination)
Illy - Cinematic @ 46
Violent Soho - Hungry Ghost @ 48

Disclosure may not have new music BUT...

As a dance duo Disclosure do not need to release original tunes when they are releasing beyond quality remixes of the two choice cuts below:

I do want new music from these boys but their 2013 debut was so damn fine "Settle" was really an EPIC dance release.

Keep close to this BLOG as I will keep all new Disclosure remixes, gossip and info on their highly anticipated second record coming. Thank god for Disclosure they keep my running mix going single handedly. Well done again boys.

Dear Kylie

I don't usually write opinion pieces on this BLOG I leave them to my other little online home Randy Andy's Weak in Review but I couldn't help this Kylie is outta control (and not in a good way). Her appearance on the voice, her lacklustre album of 2014 "Kiss me Once" and her so so sales thus far for her tour. 2014 is not kind to Kylie Minogue, she has really taken over where Delta was when she was on the grown up Voice. So here is my open letter to my second favourite Minogue sister.

Dearest Kylie:

As a long term fan (despite some very average records over recent times) I am writing this to say STOP, stop with reality TV, stop with putting out substandard albums and stop touring for the love of god.

Australians have an issue with overexposure and after your recent judging on the Voice Australia Season 3 there are few people more over exposed on Australian TV other than you love. Oh maybe the Madden Brothers.

Back in 1997 you released a fantastic album (sales might not have been great and this was pre Napster) but Impossible Princess was wonderful. You scored a feature album on Triple J and some of your finest singles were on this record "Did it Again" & "Breathe" and album track "Cowboy Style" were winners in my book.

By 2000 your Light Years album was a monster success lead by yes those hot pants in "Spinning Around". I couldn't escape your instant classics at the disco "Spinning Around", "On a Night Like This" and "Please Stay". And then came your biggest hit and album "Can't Get You Outta My Head" & "Fever" respectively.

Fever was huge "In Your Eyes", "Love at First Sight" (one of my all time favourite songs) and "Come into my World" all instant classics. Then the decline started, Body Language was no Fever, "Slow" as much as it was a great song it was no "Can't Get You Outta My Head" then came a sea of Greatest Hits cash cows and two forgettable titles (including Kiss Me Once) and also the Abbey Road Sessions.

There is no shame in taking time to release quality records, it's quality not quantity and in the age of new artists and mega hyped young things, take Lorde, Haim, Skrillex, Lana Del Rey and the Blog loved artists. One album wonders are a weekly occurrence in 2014, Blog's love you one minute (Azealia Banks and 212 anyone) and hate you the next.

Kylie for someone like you (sorry to quote you Adele) but you have no new artists pull, your also not a young pretty thing anymore (yes you need to dress your age - this is actually a bigger problem which I will leave today this is about your music) and releasing tracks featuring Enrique does trouble me. That song "Beautiful" could be in the running for the worst song of 2014. It is just dreadful.

Come on Kylie Sia produced your new album, what went wrong? Why is 1,000 Forms of Fear a US number 1 and your most likely a US number 1,001?

Sia is the hottest song writer right now, Pharrell equally one of the hottest producers right now and how come "I was Gonna Cancel" just makes me want to spew?

Kylie want I am trying to say is you used to reinvent yourself now you just seem like a lame carbon copy of the Miley's, the Katy's or the Britney's of the 2010's.

I saw Kelis live last week and this woman has been around for 15 years (a lot less than you but still a long time in the biz for 2014) and she has done a lot, from RnB to Dance to a soulful and brilliantly produced adult contemporary record. Where is the adult Kylie? Come on love your in your 40's, let's make an album for the 30-50 year olds who grew up with you and make like your old stuff a little (or a lot) more than your new stuff?

Australia needs a pop star honey and right now your not it. The Voice finale dropped 30% of viewers this year from last. If anything you should have saved that show from dull Delta, but still the care factor (not the X Factor) is really 0 for that show. The poor winner whoever they were will be back at Coles in no time.

Kylie I do love you and this is why I write to you, please take some time, reflect and stop putting out forgettable second sub standard pop albums. Lady Gaga's already yesterday's news, everyone is sick of Miley's tongue and god knows what Madonna is up to, come on we need a Gay Icon of 2014.

Please put your hand on your heart and show us who the real Kylie of 2014 is, not a carbon copy of all the other Pop rubbish on the radio.

XOXO
Flashing off the Record.
