Friday Dance Off!

Let's keep the dance off local today shall we? It's Touch Sensitive and an epic tune called "Pizza Guy":

Get your almost 6 minutes of dance on to this tune to see you into the weekend.

See you tomorrow for the Saturday Soundtrack, who will be featured? Heck I don't even know yet, until then TGIF!

Throwback Thursday!

So I am not a fan of his two most recent singles (H Town & Goin Crazy - featured here) so I thought this week's Throwback Thursday we would have a look at Dizzee's Rascal's back catalogue.

In 2007 he released a very different album called Maths & English, he then enlisted Dave Spoon to put his remix skills all over "Flex". This is a great running song and in general just a great tune.

Have a listen below and see you for a dance tomorrow.

Hump Day Hit {Major Lazer - Bubble Butt {Feat. Bruno Mars, Tyga & Mystic}}

After taking out my Super Producer Part Three and various other posts since I begun Flashing off the Record, Major Lazer's second album "Free the Universe" just continues to drop hits. This was initially my favourite cut off the album and now with a totally whack music video to boot, it completes my love of this song featuring yes the one and only Bruno "I'm all over the radio, music video and anywhere that will have me" Mars.

Check out the video below and get your Bubble Butt on!

I feel another Album of the Year Nomination coming on.... Well it is almost June. And speaking off, look out for my Mid Year Wrap up coming soon and also in a few days (well next Monday) the Hitz of Autumn 2013, the 20 hottest jams (and not Strawberry and Raspberry) over the past chilly, foggy (how was this morning Sydney?) and dance-tastic 3 months. Will Daft Punk be Number One or will something surprise us all???

Also a belated Happy 45th Birthday to Miss Kylie Minogue. She dropped this new tune overnight and with a new album on the way could this be the future Minogue???

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

I have been loving Thelma Plum since I first heard her tune "Father Said" on JJJ. The sad thing about that song was it was less than 2 minutes of pure bliss. So now after the great tune "Around Here", from the Rosie EP comes another lovely cut, Dollar.

Dollar [Explicit]

I find Thelma Plum's voice just smooth as butter and her songwriting first class.  It's great to see an act like this come out of the blue and not from a talent show like the Voice or X Factor.

I think Thelma has a bright career ahead, what do you think?

Saturday Soundtrack {Birds of Tokyo}

After four albums and some Aussie albums, it has taken me a while to see their live show and this week at the Hi-Fi I saw the boys from Perth put on a great live show.

Their live set was like a greatest hits show across their four full length releases. so this Saturday Soundtrack acts as a gig review Saturday Soundtrack combo.

I came into the gig four songs in (how did I know, well click here) and heard Broken Bones a hit from their 2008 gold selling album (a breakthrough as such) Universes.

Around track number 9 (LOL) they played an old favourite of mine Silhouettic, also from said album Universes. I really did forget how much of a radio friendly and great group these boys from the other side of this fine brown land.

They they broke into the first single and taste from their most recent release March Fires, This Fire:

It was third second Gold single and a Hottest 100 favourite. Then back to a classic with Circles. This was lifted from their third self titled release which went Platinum here thanks to Plans.

Then came an oldie that I loved and I could only find an acoustic version of the first tune I came across from the lads, it's Wayside:

Then two more mega hits from their third self titled album and the sing a long favourite Plans and Wild at Heart. This was it before an encore and the room was filled with love. Sydney loved a good sing a long to Plans and I just got super pumped to hear this recent Aussie anthem again.

Then came Sirin and the current super hit Lanterns, what a night, what catchy Aussie rock pop. Birds of Tokyo can so fill the gap that is missing without Powderfinger.

This was a great night for Aussie music and I really loved the show Ian Kenny (the hardest working man in rock - Karnivool are back too, see below for a free download of their new tune) and his troops put on for us the punters.

Australian music is really healthy at the moment and it's thanks to bands like this. Well done Birds of Tokyo, 4 Stars.

Friday Dance Off!

Where else could we look but to Daft Punk, they have been to Wee Waa they have topped album charts and singles charts around the world.

Yeah they team up with Pharrell Williams again and everyone just loves this song fully sick. Single #2 me thinks?

Tune into tomorrow for Saturday Soundtrack + gig review for Birds of Tokyo....

Wednesday Wrap

After skipping out early on the commentary on the Countdown this week it was fair to say with only one new song and Daft Punk still on top there was not much to report. However today there is exciting news, Matt Corby is back on the scene, it's exciting and a good time for Australian Music, take a listen below:

Disclosure are so close to releasing "Settle" I am thinking it's going to album of the year material, the singles have been divine thus far "You & Me" with Eliza Doolittle, "Latch" teaming up with Sam Smith & "White Noise" with AlunaGeorge.

One of Australia's hardest working bands Karnivool are back are for a short time you can grab their new track for nix - click here dear reader

Dizzee Rascal has been a busy boy of late too and released a new track (plus video) with mega pop star Robbie Williams, weird pairing? Very much so, does it work? I am not 100% sold yet but you know it may grow one me, have a listen below:

He was also super busy dropping H-Town, this song I am really unsure of whether I like it or not? I have heard it a few times on the radio and it's no "Bonkers" or even more recently "Bassline Junkie", so where is Dizzee headed?

So does all this Dizzee Rascal video noise mean a new album? And When?

Also when is my lady girl Azealia Banks dropping her debut? It's been a real quiet time for her and after a less than warm reception for her last tracks "Yung Rapunzel" I hope she doesn't just drop off the radar.

I hope you all enjoyed dance week last week and am loving Rudimental's home album as much as me, my favourite cut from the album "Baby" also now has a video, gosh this song is so killer! Forget Daft Punk, this is dance in 2013!

Last of all Aussie making it big overseas (and it seems she likes Bollywood) Iggy Azalea (not to be confused with Azealia Banks) has another track on the go, this video is fun, check it!

See you tomorrow for Throwback Thursday!

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

Major Lazer (AKA Diplo) was recently a super producer and this track from the latest album "Free the Universe" is all killer and no filler with the vocal duties over to young Peaches.

She has a killer verse and is joined by Timberlee. It's killer, it's catchy and and it's a lot of fun, I can see this being a Summer smash when the warmer days and nights return.

For more Major Lazer fun, check out the Workout mix below:

LOL, download, share and get down to this, NOW!

Saturday Soundtrack {Daft Punk}

We couldn't almost end Dance Music week (which was never set out to be Dance Music Week, but hey there is so much of it out there right now) with the godfathers of Dance direct from Wee Waa, it's Daft Punk.

For years these robot men have been cult figures in the dance music world. Now after a lot of hype they have released there latest album "Random Access Memories". Is it any good? Well after reviewing a lot of reviews submitted here, it looks like the majority of readers/listeners have enjoyed the album. Although their is always one who is gonna hate.

So Daft Punk as the Saturday Soundtrack, where do we start, so much history, so let's just start at their recent number one smash with Pharrell.

It's also important to look back and see where Daft Punk come from and how they got here, after 4 albums, one soundtrack, a couple of live albums (Alive 1997 & Alive 2007) these guys have done almost everything there is to do in the dance world.

Finally with some more Pharrell Williams from the latest album, so tonight dance yo ass off to some Daft Punk:

Friday Dance Off!

Dance week is almost complete and just in time for the dance off Disclosure on the BBC dropped another gold nugget. If this does not make you want to dance I don't know what does.

I am so excited about when the album "Settle" drops in a couple of week's it's going to be an amazing day for music. With guests like Jessie Ware, Jamie Woon, London Grammar and artists who have already featured on singles AlunaGeorge, Eliza Doolittle & Sam Smith.

So shake off the week that was and DANCE! It's Dance week!

Throwback Thursday!

Stepping back into 2005 form this week's Dance Music Week (following Monday - Album of the Year Nomination & Tuesday - Tight Ass Tuesday Knife Party attack & Wednesday's Hump Day Hit) it's time for New York's campiest act around Scissor Sisters.

Back in 2005 they released a camp disco classic Filthy/Gorgeous, the song was remixed by Mylo amongst others, the lyrics are just divine and the beats are big and nasty.

Let's take a listen and rock out 2005 style below.

Oh I feel better now and even better tomorrow we dance again with the Friday Dance Off, what will it be? I'm thinking something new, see you then.....

Hump Day Hit {Mausi - Move}

Apparently this came out about four months ago overseas, it's a lass (with three boys) called Mausi from Newcastle (UK, not Newcastle Knights) via Milan and they dropped a tune called "Move".  It sounds a little like Ke$ha, a little pop but it's fun it's a Summer jam (oh how I can't wait for a return of Summer) and it's just a perfect Dance Number:

Other than this "Move" hit they have also uploaded a killer Solange/Destiny's Child cover which I just had to post alongside this Hump Day Hit via Mausi:

Tomorrow it's time to go back with Throwback Thursday.

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

I really didn't like "Internet Friends" but I am totally loving "EDM Death Machine" from the new EP "Haunted House".

This is their third EP they have released since late 2011, it's been a good couple of years here and abroad for the ex Pendulum boys from Perth.

This song is a real departure from the novelty fun of "Internet Friends" and I am super happy to share this as today's Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day tune:

Also featured on the EP is the below which recently hit the charts in the UK (where they are now based) it's called "Power Glove":

Just because I've changed, here is the remix of "Internet Friends" also featured on the new Haunted House EP:

Until next time, Bookmark me, or whatever you do in 2013.

Album of the Year Nomination #1 - Rudimental - Home

After four hit singles and one massive promo cut ("Hell Could Freeze" feat. Angel Haze) the album we have all been waiting for since "Feel The Love" first dropped in May 2012 is finally here, it's "Home" the debut album from Hackney, London boys RUDIMENTAL.

The album actually is mental, it's loaded with heaps of BIG guests, great production and overall floor fillers that have packed dance floors since May last years hit "Feel the Love".

After wooing Australian audiences earlier this year with Festival appearances the wonderful crew at Rudimental have finally brought the noise with their massive debut "Home". And yes it's my second ever Dance album to get an album of the year nomination.

After the amazing Calvin Harris record of last year dance music has come a really long way and this is the cream of the crop of dance albums to be released thus far in 2013.

Home is an incredible achievement from the London boys and with killer cuts like "Baby", "Not Giving In", "Hell Could Freeze", "Feel the Love", "Waiting all Night" & "Spoons", it was hard to avoid handing out the first Album of the Year Nomination to these guys.

For more info on Rudimental see previous posts below:

So there you have it, the first album of the year revealed. Will Rudimental be the 2013 first Flashing off the Record album of the year? Time will tell...

Album of the Year announced on Boxing Day.

### One lonely one new entry this week from little old Bliss N Eso out of Sydney. These Sydney boys have a new album "Circus in the Sky", it's going to be a classic with "Home is Where the Heart Is" the second tune from the album to chart and the first House of Dreams already a favourite on the countdown.

Daft Punk and Pharrell continue to be a powerhouse ahead of the release of the new album in a week of song. Daft Punk are on a real roll and it will be interesting to see at the end of the month will they be the biggest song in my special list - Hitz of Autumn 2013.

Coming to this very BLOG there will be a countdown/music list every Sunday and Monday as we celebrate the first chilly month of Winter.

Looking forward as well to seeing more tunes (I'm sure) from the biggest album release this Friday the Great Gatsby soundtrack. It's a massive album with new works from Jay Z, SIA, Florence and the Machine and the already popular Lana Del Rey.

Until next Sunday, Happy Mothers Day all you mum's out there.

Saturday Soundtrack {MS MR}

OK so they blew my mind with "Hurricane" & then "Bones" scored the spot as being the Game of Thrones Season Three promo song and finally "Fantasy" was killer catchy pop, so on the day after their debut album "Secondhand Rapture" dropped it's no doubt MS MR are this week's Saturday Soundtrack.

I listen to a stream of the album on the Guardian's website during the week and was in love with this divine pop.

A friend of mine who works at Sony BMG who surprisingly looks a lot like Patience from the Grates told me the album was going to be grand and without fail Erin from Melb's this album is terrific. It's 5 star goodness and with me revealing my first Album of The Year for 2013 on Monday, will it be MS MR?

It's been a while in the mix for this album but the debut EP "Candy Bar Creep Show" had me. "Hurricane" is still one of the best songs of 2012:

If your a Game of Thrones song this song would be familiar:

Maybe not the REMIX side of things though and their latest:

I'm in love with MS MR and totally need to see them live, live you say, well tickets go on-sale Monday here for a gig @ the Metro.

I pray to whoever is upstairs that I am at this gig.

So there you have it today's Saturday Soundtrack straight from New York it's MS MR. Enjoy the sounds above and don't forget to head along to the Guardian site to stream the entire album. OR buy it now, it's all killer and no filler.

See you tomorrow for a HOT new Countdown and Monday for the first album of the year Nomination, yes in May, come on artists put out some pure gold, NOW!

Friday Dance Off!

Who needs to end the week with a bit of a dance off, shall we dance together to a classic? Hell yes! It's an almighty hit from Jamiroquai.

Such a tune, it was featured in cult favourite Napoleon Dynamite. Oh the memories especially when Triple J are about to do the Hottest 100 of the past 20 years, find out more here.

So lets dance off the weeks stress and get ready for the weekend!

Throwback Thursday!

I now really love Thursdays (not just because every second one I get paid) cause I get to go back in time and today with the launch of Triple J's Twenty Years of Hottest 100's.  So I got thinking which band deserves a lot of love in this countdown? Easy - Radiohead.

And only the other day I threw on their Greatest Hits and man did I love their song "Pyramid Song". It's so dark (or seems to be), it's a chilled jam but just simply one of my favourite Radiohead songs of all time. It's hard to pick one Radiohead song but I do love this one.

So Throwback Thursday, Radiohead it's over to you:

Hump Day Hit {Horrorshow - Unfair Lottery}

Sydney boys from my hood the Inner West are finally back, Aussie hip hop is in a good place right now. Bliss N Eso (also from Sydney town) are returning soon, Drapht is releasing tune after tune and their is no end to new artists popping up on the Oz Hip Hop scene.

So yes it's Horrorshow and their new hit from the Elefant Traks label "Unfair Lottery", maybe my favourite title for a track to this week.

These boys don't drop F bombs and C bombs for airplay they write and produce great tunes. Horrorshow sell out local shows and could well do well internationally if they market themselves well enough. I am looking forward to there third full length album which should be out sometime this year.

Sydney Hip Hop fans get into this new joint cause it's DOPE!

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

It's been a while since we heard Kelis on our radio's, particularly JJJ. She collaborated with Calvin Harris for his monster smash "Bounce"her dance angel and album "Flesh Tone" was not a high seller but it showed Kelis really doesn't need to just sit in the RnB barnyard her voice has range and she is spectacular, this was proved to me by seeing her at the last (maybe the last ever) Good Vibrations Festival.

Her set was magic and fans really lapped her up. Her career has been up ("Milkshake") and down ("Blindfold Me"), she is divorced to Nas, she has a child and has been a guest vocalist time and time again.

Today though her new tune, Jerk Ribs (yes weird title) is a grower, I didn't love it first airing but the second time, I thought hey I have followed her (and not in a Twitter way) since 1999 and "Caught Out There", this is again a different angel and I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the album (so far titled "Food") is going to be like. This is produced by Dave Sitek (member and producer of TV on the Radio) so an indie vibe on this album?

RnB/Hip Hop to full on Dance to indie Dance? Go Kelis!

Tame Impala

After my mini review over here I decided for my exclusively music BLOG I would do a full review on the parts I stayed for. Yes I left 8 songs, which is easy to do when the group you are seeing do all the songs you like and know them for.

They opened up with the first taste of Lonerism they gave us "Apocalypse Dreams" which was a nice way to start off the evening they moved into the older tune, "It Is Not Meant to Be". By track four they were back to their old tricks with my favourite tune from their debut "Solitude is Bliss". Then early in the set they broke into "Elephant" followed directly by "Feel Like We Only Go Backwards". Kind of the end of the night really.

There two big hits from their last album back to back, what did the rest of the night behold, well thank god for the Internet I found out easily enough what I missed.

I found this gig very professional and almost too easy for the boys and they played hit after hit, the Perth 5 piece are making all sorts of waves and soon enough they will leave our shores me thinks.

With Pond working on a new disc too these boys from WA are super busy.  It's good to see an Aussie group getting so much love here and abroad.

I think they got their venues a bit mixed up as the Hordern was a little over sized for them but good on you for trying.

Tame Impala have filled the gaps of Australian chart favourites Powderfinger and just show good song writing and the use of real musical instruments still pays off.

Tame Impala, definitely different to young Flume on Tuesday night and as you would have seen from my comments over @ my Randy Andy blog they definitely appeal to those Bondi Beach hipsters.

Tame Impala, if they keep at it, they have a strong future as one of Australia's best album bands around, 3 stoned fuzzed out stars.

### Only the one lonely old re-entry this week for Groovin' the Moo and touring Artist Flume. After seeing his live show on Tuesday night he totally deserves two hits in the top 20 this week.

Daft Punk continue to be the biggest group on the planet with some handy help from Pharrell & Nile Rodgers, the tune has been bigger than Ben Hur.

Until next Sunday night, don't forget to drop by for tunes, soundtracks and dance offs though-out the week.

Saturday Soundtrack {Tame Impala}

Ahead of a more comprehensive review of their gig on Thursday night (to be published here - Monday) I thought these Perth boys this week deserve to be featured in my Saturday Soundtrack segment.

Tame Impala have never won an ARIA but they have won two album of the tear awards for their two albums from both Rolling Stone & Triple J, multiple WAMI Awards (Western Australian Music Awards) and won the hearts of the trendy end of Australian music lovers.

I did a mixed review with some stage, comedy & most importantly Tame Impala HERE but as above I will do a BIG review on Monday.

In the meantime it's Saturday Soundtrack so let's hear some sounds from this EPIC Perth outfit:

Here is the BIG number from the Hottest 100 last year and their Lonerism disc:

More from Lonerism and the floor stomping sounds of ELEPHANT

This was the first taste from their second album, was it a difficult second album, HELL No!

Do you remember this?

Oh Stoner classic:

And here is my total favourite:

And not that it is technically Tame Impala but Pond are almost Tame Impala, right?

So until next Friday I am sure this song will keep you dancing for days on end, it's epic it's grand and the production is supreme.

Enjoy, it's Friday!

Flume

Last year's Australian Album of the Year and Super Producer Flume hit Sydney's Hordern Pavilion over the last two nights with the Infinity Prism Tour.  He opened up with his Gurrumul/Yolanda be Cool remix of "A Baru in New York" a great opener and a chilled way for the evening to commence.

Starting off with hits from the album including "More Than You Thought" and moving ever so seamlessly into "Sleepless" and "Ezra". The set then turned it up a notch by his "What So Not" remix of "Get Free" the killer jam by Major Lazer.

"Holdin On'" was song number 7 which was early on but the crowd loved it, it continued with "Bring it Down" & "Sintra" (my personal album favourite) and when "Insane" took full flight (current JJJ single) the crowd lost their shit.

There was a short break before the full assault of "On Top" featuring rapper T-Shirt just killed it.

By this point the Hordern was jumping and loving his awesome light and visual show on the screens provided as part of the Infinity Prism.

By the Encore we were all waiting for the Hyperparadise remix of Hermitude and this came after Chet Faker joined Flume on stage for "Left Alone" and then a new exclusive collaboration.

It was a great evening and a whole lot of fun from young to old from front to back of the venue.

Flume definitely deserved my Australian Album of 2012, in the old days a dance single was easy to top the charts but a dance album was hard to hit the top spots.  Yes there is always exceptions but now Flume is constantly keeping people like Michael Buble, One Direction and Taylor Swift from the top spots.

The album has sold over 70,000 copies here in Australia and I believe 2013 will be his international year.

So can Flume pull of the live experience, oh hell yes and with style. Flume is here to stay and I'm so happy his a Sydney boy.

Flume rates 4 stars.
