Saturday Soundtrack {Kanye West}

After releasing his Australian #1 album "Yeezus" and sampling Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People" with the hit single "Black Skinhead it's time to focus on his amazing career, so today on a wet, cold Saturday lets get lifted with KANYE!

So let's kick things off and have a HUGE Kanye Saturday party:

Friday Dance Off!

It's an indie Dance Off today and UK indie kids the Bloc Party are back again and this time with an indie jam titled "Ratchet". It's only one year since their last record "Four" which happened to be their fourth record since 2005. They have dabbled in dance music before and Kele loves to dance so this indie dance fusion is a lot of fun.

So less talk more action and let's dance our booties off for three minutes or so.

Until tomorrow when I catch you for a Saturday Soundtrack.

TGIF!

Throwback Thursday!

I saw the Internship last night (review on the Randy Andy BLOG) and must say this was a bit of a fun tune to be featured in the film. I miss Alanis Morissette, her tune "Ironic" and album "Jagged Little Pill" was one of the biggest albums of the 90's. Giving Girl Power a new meaning and a much more excited and angry girl than a Spice Girl.

So let's throwback to 1995 below:

Tomorrow get ready to D.A.N.C.E

Hump Day Hit {Owl Eyes - Nightswim}

The latest single and title track from Owl Eyes is today's Hump Day Hit "Nightswim".

I have enjoyed watching Owl Eyes career after leaving the sixth season of the now defunct Australian Idol. After a few EP's and singles Owl Eyes AKA Brooke Addamo is really in a decent place. Her album debuted at 28 in the Australian Albums Chart and I think here fan base is growing with every new single.

"Nightswim" the title track is super 80's and has a classy video to boot below:

Until tomorrow when we throwback to the past, it's a new dawn with a new national leader and a tied State of Origin.

Sleep tight busy nation.

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

So yesterday Disclosure were announced as my second Album of the Year Nomination and today two Aussies have also shown some love for the two dudes from Surrey. It's beat maker and Australian Album of the Year holder for 2012 Flume and new to the scene rapper Allday. This takes on the original "You & Me" Disclosure tune featuring Ms Eliza Doolittle.

This is a mega Disclosure love in and this track has gone a little under the radar despite a lot of early JJJ airplay.

So let's take a listen to the below audio video.

Also overnight the boys have released a video for the terrific "F For You", take a look & listen below:

Album of the Year Nomination #2 - Disclosure - Settle

Second album of the year nomination has a few things in common with the first, one they are UK based, two they have a complete dance record which keeps you dancing and moving from track one until the disc's completion & they both are one word album titles.

Yes it's Disclosure "Settle".

This album has had so much hype, 3 killer singles prior to the albums release and an EP and a remix which got lot's of people blogging (me for one) and talking about DISCLOSURE.

So when "Settle" was released and it was all we hoped for it was easy, this is the second Album of the Year Nomination for 2013. It is turning into the year of hot dance releases and Disclosure's debut is definitely hot. Much like Rudimental, Disclosure's debut had so much hype leading into it's release and such killer tracks prior to the full LP dropped it was so awesome to see this album just be as divine as it is.

Yes I am over the moon to announce Disclosure as our second album of the year nomination. Who will win, tune in on Boxing Day and we will find out what will follow on from Frank Ocean's amazing "Chanel Orange" debut. Will another debut album take out the prize???

In the meantime let's have a listen to some cuts from the Surrey brothers, and with guests like AlunaGeorge, Eliza Doolittle, Sam Smith, Jamie Woon, Jesse Ware & loads more...

And now Flume has got in on the love in for Disclosure:

So much love for Disclosure, and that's why it's the second Album of the Year Nomination.

3 - Matt Corby - Resolution
2- Daft Punk - Get Lucky {Feat. Pharrell Williams}
1 - Bastille - Pompeii

## No Commentary last week for some reason but this week I could not resist as it's the first week in months and I mean months that Daft Punk and Pharrell are not number with what can be only said as a massive contender for JJJ's Hottest number one place. Yes newcomers Bastille take out number one finally, I was hoping Matt Corby would get their but Bastille (soon to tour) have finally dethroned Daft Punk.

Reentering the countdown this week Naughty Boy and Disclosure home boy Sam Smith. New music from Kanye West and Birds of Tokyo finish up the countdown. Kanye West has really stolen all the thunder this week, first the album leaked then being released mid week sent iTunes and music retailers into a spin. It's been a big week in music and I thought I would look at some other chart favourites this week which just missed out on a place:

Firstly this tune by Bernard Fanning made it as a new entry last week but the Blog failed to post the video/audio, so here you go:

Illy is back on board with this ditty, it was so close it was the number 21 song

 Rufus follow up "Follow Me" with this killer tune:

Indie favourites Grouplove are no longer Tongue Tied, they are back with this indie gem

Bliss N Eso have got all your favourite Aussie Hip Hop kids along for this tune, the new album is so close

Last but not least, some local electronica, it's Touch Sensitive:

The week has all been about Kanye West and some have called his new album "Yeezus", which has been described as his equal to Radiohead's "Kid A". So in Throwback Thursday let's go back to one of his earlier jams, yes it's time to dig up some GOLD!

I have a feeling Kanye West might very well make the Countdown this Sunday! Apologies to for the late post of the Countdown too this week, super busy Sunday equals no postings.

Saturday Soundtrack {Pharrell Williams}

After his great appearance on the Despicable Me 2 Soundtrack (Happy) and upcoming production/features it was hard to overlook Mr Pharrell Williams (also the sexiest man in music) as today's Saturday Soundtrack.

So he is featured on the year's BIGGEST tune, "Get Lucky" the return to form by Daft Punk. I truly believe this tune might just be the number one in my year end Top 200 list and also the Hottest 100 on JJJ. They are on the way to having the biggest song in Winter and this tune just continues to get covered all over YouTube and by little on San Cisco (recently featured on this very blog).

So let's now take a look/listen to the career of Pharrell (well a brief one, I have to jet to the Central Coast in a bit).

He has unfortunately only had one studio album (I am hoping for a second) so let's take a look at the highlights:

Littered with guests from Kanye to Snoop, this one featured the IT girl back then Ms Gwen Stefani:

Speaking of the Kanye feature, it's "Number One":

From solo albums to features and man has he done some features, here are some highlights:

He teamed up with Britney for this killer pop jam "Boys":

Jay Z and Pharrell can also produce total magic in the studio:

One of Snoop Dogg's most famous songs was a Pharrell MEGA hit:

Pharrell can also dance and before Swedish House Mafia called it quits they got Pharrell in the house:

Before we move off guest features it would be hard to leave out Daft Punk, so here it is:

We also cannot forget he is a major part of NERD, so let's take a look at one of their greatest hits before we move onto his long list of production efforts:

OK so onto production efforts and he has worked with everyone and I mean everyone from P.Diddy to Kelis, Britney to Nelly, LL Cool J to Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani to Julian Casablancas (The Strokes). So I think we will totally have to come back to this one day for a segment I love called Super Producers because looking at Pharrell's catalogue is just like looking at the history of fantastic pop music.

OK so let's listen to a couple of his production highlights so then I can cut a rug to some of the killer tunes featured above. If this doesn't get you ready for Saturday night, nothing will!

OK I hope you enjoyed this mix as much as I enjoyed making it. Happy Weekends!

Friday Dance Off!

OMG I wish the Gorillaz would still make bangin' tunes, cause DARE for me is one of the most banging songs of all time. 4 albums on and the Gorillaz are still a super group to mess with and their 2005 album "Demon Days" was really killer Brit Pop.

So let's dance away this short week and get a little excited about the Saturday Soundtrack tomorrow, who will be featured? Only Time will tell....

Thursday, June 13, 2013

Throwback Thursday!

They are Aussie Hip Hop royalty, it's South Australia's finest The Hilltop Hoods:

Yeah you know you love it!

From the Nosebleed Section.

See you tomorrow for a dance off to end all dance off's!

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

The world is a great place when there is new music around by Pharrell Williams. He not only releases dope tunes himself but his production back catalogue is HUGE! I think I will need to go over this further in future posts. I am over the moon at Pharrell's new joint from the Despicable Me 2 OST. It's called "Happy" and he worked on the first soundtrack and returns for round 2.

After huge success with Daft Punk, 2013 could be the year of Pharrell Williams.

Take a listen below:

Long Weekend Countdown Commentary

Morning and after waking @ 9am this morning it's definitely a long weekend. First up let's look at the new entries from last night's Long Weekend style Countdown.  The highest was NZ songbird, Lorde. With two singles in the countdown now she is one popular lady. "Tennis Court" is the name of the follow up to "Royals", take a listen below:

Major Lazer and the most crazy song of 2013 thus far "Bubble Butt" with a team of guests and the worlds weirdest and funniest music videos right now. Take a look below and warning, it's wild:

Two Aussie new entries made up the grand total of four new songs in the Countdown with Boy and Bear's new song making it in @ 19:

Rounding up the 20 was Mr Powderfinger himself, Bernard Fanning with the lead single from his second album "Departures" which was released on Friday. There were some big new Aussie albums released last Friday and up after this Bernard tune I will preview them:

Before I get to the new releases Mr Fanning also did well in the Hottest 100 of the last 20 years. For my reactions click here for part one and here for part two. For the full list click here.

Now onto last week's mega releases:

Mr Wolfmother, Andrew Stockdale released his solo album (or some press suggest "his" third album - that is if you include the two Wolfmother albums as his) titled Keep Moving, take a listen below:

Jagwar Ma are getting lot's of coverage in the UK at present (and rightfully so) here is a look at their debut album "Howlin":

And finally of the three Aussie albums is Mr Fanning mentioned above, with the long awaited solo album "Departures", "Battleships" has received a lot of play on JJJ but sold poorly on iTunes. So let's see how the album goes, as for the past Powderfinger were always more of an album band. Here is another look at "Departures":

The big new Aussie release this week is Empire of the Sun's follow up to their massive debut of Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele making sweet music. Apparently in a US publication they are Australia's answer to MGMT, if that's the case let's hope they are not one album wonders.

The album will be featured on JJJ and here is a wee taste below:

Tomorrow what tune will I shine the spotlight on for the Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day, Bookmark, favourite me, whatever to find out.

Happy Queens Birthday.

First cab off the rank is Lorde from NZ, following up her smash hit single "Royals" comes another pop music gem "Tennis Court", take a lil listen:

Now to Nine Inch Nails, it's been ages since we last heard Trent Reznor & co, they will also have a new album come September.

Now to some local hip hop, Illy is a music making machine, hear his new one below:

Now speaking of local hip hop I will have for you on Monday 17th a list of the top 20 Aussie Hip Hop stars so bookmark now if you like the Aussie Hip Hop flavour.

Hot Chip have now also returned with some more indie dance action. You like to dance on the Long Weekend, take a listen below:

Today it's time to dance and unfortunately this crew only had one dance. Featuring half of Daft Punk, Alan Braxe and vocals by Benjamin Diamond it's super French group STARDUST.

So excited today on Throwback Thursday to be featuring this mega hit from 1998. I can't believe it's been 15 years since the tune hit the dance floor.

So let's stop typing and start dancing.....

Hump Day Hit {Boy & Bear - Southern Sun}

From my hometown of Sydney Boy & Bear are gearing up to release their second disc titled Harlequin Dream. Their first album Moonfire was extremely popular and the boys proved their sound was totally refreshing and something amazing.

So I am happy to share their new tune it's Southern Sun and I reckon it's a nice winter number:

Stay tuned tomorrow as we go from the new to the old with Throwback Thursday!

### Commentary, it's 25% new or sort of new (in the case of Rufus) music this week and what an exciting week in music, with Daft Punk being Winter's first number one and tomorrow we will discover what the number one song of Autumn was? What do you think it would be? Daft Punk, Rudimental or Macklemore? And speaking of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis they have done it again with Wing$, a brand new entry (and they highest for the week) @ number 12.

National Reconciliation week sees Geoffrey Gurrumal Yunnipingu make a nice entry into the chart with Sarah Blasko (not Delta Goodrem) and Sam Smith (of Disclosure "Latch" fame) does a ditty with Naughty Boy. Also new is A$AP Rocky and some mates and re entering again is Rufus who this week gave JJJ their new single to spin. I expect big things from those lads.

And yes Daft Punk and Pharrell continue to impress, so much so cute kids from Perth Sans Cisco gave them some love, check it out below:

Saturday Soundtrack {Disclosure}

Firstly their debut "Settle" is out now, now for a lot of you (including me) this has been a very long time coming. Ever since I hear their remix of "Running" by Jessie Ware and their breakthrough track "Control" I have been hooked.

So today after a few posts about these boys from Reigate, England Disclosure are today's dancing Saturday Soundtrack.

So let's go back to the start and for me it was Control, so have a listen:

Also Running by Jessie Ware and the remix was ace, also they did a fully tight remix of a classic Artful Dodger tune cementing in my mind these boys were the shit:

Now to the lead up to the album, the massive success of "Latch" with Sam Smith and then "White Noise" with AlunaGeorge just helped make this album so anticipated.

Then pre the album Eliza Doolittle come out of hiding to help the boys on this little cut:

Now the album is out for the world to enjoy these two cuts are just to die for:

So if you like what you hear the album "Settle" is out now and is totally amazing!

See you tomorrow for a new Countdown.
