Album of the Year Nomination #4 - Doja Cat - Scarlet

The Album of the Year journey continues with Scarlet. The fourth studio album by Doja Cat.

Doja Cat was disillusioned with pop music and dissatisfied with music critics questioning her status as a rapper, Doja Cat felt inspired to create a "masculine" follow-up to her third studio album, Planet Her. Which was our Album of the Year in 2021.

The album has no features, with a monster lead single, Paint the Town Red. Which is currently sitting pretty at number one on the Australian singles chart.

This also marked Doja Cat's first solo number-one on the US Billboard Hot 100, the UK Singles Chart, the Billboard Global 200.

The latest single is Agora Hills, following promotional singles Attention, Demons and Balut.

To support the album, Doja Cat will embark on the Scarlet Tour in October 2023, her first arena tour as a headliner.

Scarlet joins G Flip, Genesis Owusu and Olivia Rodrigo. With a large number of records dropping in October. 2023 maybe the year with the most nominations to date! It was a slow start to the year but things are really picking up now!

Morgan Evans

Morgan John Evans or just Morgan Evans is hot. Wait! This was my first ever country music concert. At the Sydney Opera House no less.

Australian country music singer and songwriter, released a self-titled debut studio album in March 2014, which peaked at number 20 on the ARIA Albums Chart. He also won an ARIA Award for Best Country Album for his second studio album, Things That We Drink To.

This year, Evans performed “long live the Newcastle Knights” live at the home NRL Finals game. You can take the boy out of Newcastle, but you can never take Newcastle out of the boy! He may also be the most famous Newcastle Knights fan!

Evans also filmed the show last night, whilst getting guests Kita Alexander and John Williamson on stage! Yes that John Williamson, true blue!

OK so it was a big show as part of his Life Upside Down Tour. His track with Kita Alexander Date Night was a highlight for me. As Kita has really branched out. A duet with a country star, then the next single with DJ/producer, Fisher. What a change of gears.

Day Drunk was a massive moment before a 1.5/2 song encore. Why I say half is I Still Call Australia Home was rather short. Actually most of his songs are short.

So my first ever country gig. Thoughts? Loved it! Were you expecting that?

I saw older folks tapping their feet, clapping away, fixed on this handsome young Newcastle born artist.

He is extremely impressive interacting with the sold out crowd. The set list was a great mix of break up songs, songs about being young and dumb and songs of loss. It was a wild range of emotions. I never listened to a single song ahead of the concert. Going in blind was bliss. Row M in the middle of the Concert Hall at Sydney's Opera House was heaven.

Now some related audio. Get into this young man right now. He is sexy AF, with a damn fine, commanding voice. Listen up!

Album of the Year Nomination #3 - Olivia Rodrigo - GUTS

Well the Album of the Year race is really on now! GUTS is the second studio album by Olivia Rodrigo. It is the third Album of the Year Nomination for 2023!

Released on September 8, 2023, this week's feature record, following the lead single, Vampire.

Vampire debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, scoring Rodrigo her third number-one single in the United States.

Then came Bad Idea Right?, which was released mid-August. Reaching the top 10 in the US and UK.

So following G Flip and Genesis Owusu, this marks the first international record in the race for the BIG Album of the Year event. Going down, announced New Year's Eve, who will take out the Album of 2023?

Get Him Back! is set to be the album's third single from the 12 track release. Just under 40 minutes this album is a lot of fun, an easy listen with plenty of sing-a-long anthems. Only two short years ago we got the debut album, SOUR. Yes this was an Album of the Year Nomination too. Losing out to Doja Cat back in 2021.

Now the scary thing is, Doja Cat has a new record out later this month. Will history repeat itself? SCARY! anyway you can stream the full album right here. For now here are some live cuts from the album.
