Sunday Spotlight: Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey delivers album number five in Lust for Life. Her debut self titled album and earlier tracks you may have known Lana as Lizzy Grant. This plagued her around the release of Born to Die, however the album went onto be a massive success.

Video Games is still a killer jam and easily one of the biggest tracks from Lana Del Rey from her now extensive back catalogue.

There were four big singles from Born to Die and then came her Great Gatsby success with Young & Beautiful a couple of remixes from Cedric Gervais. Ultraviolence and Honeymoon lacked the big singles that Born to Die gave the world but were still fan favourites. From early listens Lust for Life has some strong tracks and great guests.

The Weeknd has not only used Lana on his records but he appears on the super sexy title track to the album.

I am a big fan of Lana and honestly after the huge breakout hit of Born to Die I was not sure we would still be blogging, caring about Del Rey in 2017, but her she is and sill vocally sound along with some divine production.

Well done Lana, let's chill with some of the big hits from her career.

Sunday Spotlight: Jungle Giants

Forming in 2011 The Jungle Giants have grown their fan base from a Triple J based audience to a further reaching loyal group of individuals who have supported local Brisbane four piece.

In 2015 their track Kooky Eyes became an instant ear worm taking their album to #25 on the Australian album charts. Speakerzoid also featured Every Kind of Way and numerous other indie pop hits.

Last month the group released their latest record Quiet Ferocity, lead by the dance-tastic single Feel the Way I Do and hit single On Your Way Down.

So what better way to chill on Sunday than with some indie pop from Brisbane, Australia.

Out on the Shelves... Yesterday (Plus a hint to next weeks feature album)

It was a good day for new music yesterday with French Montana teaming up with loads of guests including The Weeknd on his new album Jungle Rules.

The Kite String Tangle also released his debut self titled record yesterday and I for one am excited about this local release.

L D R U released 9 bangers yesterday on his Sizzlar Mixtape. From his earlier hits like Keeping Score and Next to You, there are 9 solid cuts and guests on this album.

Meg Mac has also delivered her debut solo album, it's been Triple J's feature record all this week and it's solid as gold, Low Blows is out now and she will be touring real soon.

Mura Musa also released a debut record yesterday, like the Kite String Tangle it's self titled and features some damn tasty songs you would be familiar with and some new jams like Nuggets.

RAC brings back the guests on his new album EGO...

Last but not least there was new singles, EP's and an album from Wizkid (Drake's One Dance friend), Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails and Billie Eilish. I love new music...

Sunday Spotlight: Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris is up to record number five, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 landed the other week and given time to listen I am feeling parts, but clearly the world is as Feels only this Friday made it to number one here on the Fresh Friday Countdown.

The album features a swag of guests, everyone from Katy Perry to Frank Ocean, Pharrell to Nicki Minaj, it's a pop music lovers dream and to be honest mine too.

Calvin has worked with a lot of the greats in the past, HAIM, Rihanna, Dizzee Rascal, Ellie Goulding, John Newman, Kelis, Florence Welch and a heap more.

Calvin Harris is one of the kings of EDM and always gets attention when a new record, single are about to hit the clubs and the airwaves.

So it's Sunday, let's jam out to some Calvin classics and future classics.

Sunday Spotlight: Grinspoon

The Sunday Spotlight is back for July and what better way than to celebrate 20 years of an outstanding release from Lismore, NSW, Guide to Better Living.

Grinspoon have been doing the rounds since the mid 90's and still selling out gigs across the nation. This week in Sydney they play Thursday 6 July & a sold out Friday 7 July at Sydney's Enmore Theatre.

The four piece came onto the scene with this very album, were huge on Triple J and have gone onto release 7 full length recordings. In addition we have had four EP's and big hits like Chemical Heart all across the radio.

I have loved Grinspoon since my high school years on the Central Coast so to see an album I grew up celebrate 20 years makes me feel an old mad music fan. I loved DCX3, Don't Go Away and all the hits from this remarkable debut.

Grinspoon are Australian icons, well done boys for showing Aussie's still rock, hard.
