Sunday Spotlight: Custard

Custard have been around for a fair while now. This month the Brisbane four piece related their eighth studio record, Respect All Lifeforms.

Now lead singer David Liam McCormack is a busy man. He appears on the ABC Kids animated TV series Bluey, as the voice of Bluey's dad, Bandit. This gains a whole new audience for McCormack  which hopefully flows onto his main group, Custard.

In the late 90's I was so excited by Custard's quirky pop songs. From their album 1997, We Have the Technology the group showed their fun side with the hit Music is Crap.

Loverama (the follow up to We Have the Technology) gave us radio favourites like Girls Like That (Don't Go For Guys Like Us), Hit Song and Ringo (I Feel Like). The album returned the group to their 1995 hey days when the group was riding high with the hit Apartment.

Custard were one of the bands I grew to love whilst growing to love listening to Triple J in the late 90's. Still to this day in 2020 I listen exclusively to Triple J (sometimes Double J where Custard fit a little better now, gaining this week's feature album) where I have discovered so many more amazing local talents like Custard back in the 90's.

So to kick off some 90's features I will feature here all June long, get into some Custard for your Sunday.

Sunday Spotlight: Pearl Jam

Released late March, it's taken me a while to feature one of the biggest stadium rock bands of all time, Pearl Jam.

Hailing from the same city as Grey's Anatomy, Seattle, Pearl Jam gave us their debut album Ten, all the way back in 1991.

Gigaton is the eleventh studio album from the Seattle group topping the Spanish and Greek charts.

The album was meet with positive reviews and decent album and vinyl (yes vinyl) sales in North America.

I don't think much needs to be written about the Seattle five piece fronted by Eddie Vedder. So today let's take a listen to the new record as well as take in some of their biggest hits since 1991.

Next week will be the final Sunday Spotlight for a mini winter's break, so come back next weekend for another amazing feature.

Sunday Spotlight: Drake

Around the time Scorpion was released in 2018, I featured Drake previously. Back there you can view a number of old school videos, however I have also featured some of his biggest hits below.

Also last time (2018) when I featured Drake he had just hit number one on the Australian album charts. Looking at last nights ARIA charts, it happened again! Yes Drake's new mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes debuted at number one.

Drake is now a certified chart topper, his single Toosie Slide also peaked at number three on the Australian singles chart. The single was released early April, however it was the surprise release of the mixtape that caught Australian and international fans by surprise.

The mixtape features guest appearances from Future, Young Thug, Chris Brown, and Playboi Carti, Giveon, Fivio Foreign, and Sosa Geek. So it's a stacked line up.

Unlike mega stars like Lady Gaga and others holding their releases during COVID-19. Drake went HAM and just dropped Dark Lane Demo Tapes. The result, heaps of hype, positive sales (over 20,000 copies in the UK as well as the top spot) and not awful reviews.

Drake is on top of his game right now.

So this Mother's Day celebrate with Drake, the Sunday Spotlight returns next Sunday.
