Hump Day Hit {Haim - The Wire}

Visitors to Australia for the Splendour in the Grass festival it's HAIM, here with their follow up to the pop gems "Don't Save Me", "Forever" & "Falling". It's a new jam called "The Wire" and I am sure it is going to be a massive hit for the young ladies.

Haim are the complete package, great looking, great sounds and a big future.

I am totally looking forward to a full length record from these kids and I hope it's soon cause we need more acts like Haim in 2013.

Until tomorrow when we go back and I mean way back! Later.

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

The new album from Basement Jaxx is set to be titled "Music" (maybe an ode to Madonna) and way, way back in April I featured this post with the "Back 2 the Wild" tune. Basement Jaxx have now turned up with Sam Brookes on vocals for this killer tune:

This single will be featured on a new EP out in September. I will bring you more news of the albums release in coming months.

In the meantime this song is sure to make you DANCE!

Until tomorrow....

Countdown Commentary

It's been a while since the BLOG has shifted it's attention to the Countdown to the prior day so let's take a quick peak before tomorrow's Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day.

The new tunes this week came from Bastille and Fatboy Slim mixing it up with Riva Starr. I was really happy to see some new music from Fatboy as he really is a dance music icon. Norman Cook has worked under a few names and produced hits for years now. Bastille proved "Pompeii" was not just a lucky hit.

In other news before I move onto this weeks local and international (the UK) charts well done to Lorde, one for filling in for Frank Ocean (a big task) at Splendour in the Grass 2013 and two for being number one again with the massive smash "Royals" and also "Tennis Court" continues to prove she is no one trick pony.  Looking forward to a debut from the 16 year old from across the pond.

So to the Australian Number One in the singles Avicii continues to be number one with Aloe Blacc doing some damn fine work on vocals on that tune. Avicii's album True will be very interesting towards the end of this year. On the album side of things Aussie rock team Karnivool take out the top spot with their latest release "Asymmetry". The boys from Perth who formed in 1997 really are killing it & I expect to see them on many festival line ups and the weather starts to heat up.

In the UK Avicii "Wake Up" mirrors it's Aussie number one success and shows the young DJ is HUGE! On the albums chart Jahmene Douglas (not on my radar yet) took out the top spot with his album "Love Never Fails".

So there you have it, so much good pop music out now and my favourite pop album from the weekend and recent times, it's the infectious AlunaGeorge, take a listen below:

Album of the Year Nomination #3- Kanye West - Yeezus

Joining the one and only Rudimental and the sensational Disclosure is someone who needs little to no introduction, he has a massive fan base but he also has an equal amount of haters. It's KANYE WEST.

His latest album "Yeezus" (his sixth studio album, seventh if you include the Jay Z share album of "Watch the Throne") is huge, the album features production from Daft Punk, Hudson Mohawke, Lupe Fiasco & even Mr West himself plus loads more talent.

The fact the album has no real artwork, no lead single and basically just a warning, new album it's out like now....

Kanye has released "Black Skinhead" recently as the first single and it's super killer, it's a floor stomper, it's got heaps of bad words and the song is just pure anger.

I first loaded the album to my iPhone and just was blown away by the production, the lyrical content and of course happy to hear Daft Punk followed up "Get Lucky" on someone else's record. Yes Daft Punk will not be receiving an album of the year nod for their rather lacklustre over hyped release of this year.

The album (similar most recent hip hop albums) features loads of amazing guests, he has collected an army of awesome vocals from Frank Ocean (last years Album of the Year) to Kid Cudi and even Justin Vernon of Bon Iver fame.

Samples galore are also on offer and this album when it's finished it's 40 minute playing time really leaves a lasting impression.  I have been a huge fan of Kanye since "The College Dropout" and "All Falls Down". He continues to reinvent himself and stay current, he has had very few days out of the press and his marketing campaigns are some what epic now.

Coming up closely to Jay Z's latest album this album showed Kanye is the King and Jay Z is now the Prince of Hip Hop with Kanye delivering what I can debate is the strongest Hip Hop record of 2013.

Who remembers Killing Heidi? Their album "Reflector" was one of the biggest albums in the year 2000 and featured massive hits like "Weir", "Mascara", "Superman/Supergirl" & "Live Without It".

So let's take a look back at Killing Heidi in 2000 today and I look forward to hopefully seeing Ella Hoopers solo release see the light of day soon, so watch this space. Her project with her brother Jesse the Verses never really took off.

Hump Day Hit {Dizzee Rascal - I Don't Need A Reason}

Dizzee's back and his fifth album is about to drop.  His new album has been a long time coming with tracks dropping here there and everywhere! And here is the latest:

"Bassline Junkie" was the first taste which I totally dug and featured a bag load of really bad language and then came "H-Town" produced by A-Trak which I wasn't crazy for and speaking of crazy then came the random "Goin Crazy" with Robbie Williams.

The Fifth could be a really mixed bag or it could be great. Dizzee has worked worked with Jessie J, Calvin Harris, DJ Fresh and even Shakira, so a mixed bag right there. Let's hope Dizzee brings the magic on this new disc but in the meantime he is today's Hump Day Hit....

Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day

Apologies for the late Countdown this week, turning 31 was a little much for this little old BLOG to handle. So today's Tight Ass Tuesday Tune Day is a homage to the new and re entries to the Countdown this week and it goes a little something like the below:

20 - Grouplove - Ways to Go

19 - Pearl Jam - Mind Your Manners

16 - Jay Z {Feat. Justin Timberlake} - Holy Grail

6 - Ellie Goulding - Burn

So with less than a week till I share the third album of the year with it's time to focus on the above new tunes. First up GROUPLOVE, it's been a while since we got Tongue Tied with them and now they are back with another slice of indie heaven.

PEARL JAM are rumoured to be touring soon and they have a new album on the way in the meantime this is the first taste of their new release "Mind Your Manners", not to be confused with the Chiddy Bang hit of 2012.

JAY Z has had a massive run with his new album Magna Carter Holy Grail and this cut featuring the other man of the moment Justin Timberlake has made a bit of an impact on iTunes.

ELLIE GOULDING is re-releasing her last album with a few bonus tunes and "Burn" is the first of them. Ellie had a smash with "Anything Could Happen" last year thanks to Coke and also "I Need Your Love" was also a huge jam with Calvin Harris.  Ellie could have another monster hit on her hands.

Also a big well done to Lorde from NZ, number one and only 16! Poor old Matt Corby at least he had one week at the top spot. Have a look this coming Sunday for a new Countdown and tomorrow for a Hump Day Hit!

Saturday Soundtrack {Josh Pyke}

It's been a while since I have featured a singer/songwriter and a local one to for that matter and today it's time to celebrate the career of local boy Josh Pyke. He recently released his fourth studio album "The Beginning and the End of Everything" which has been well received and features the below piece of catchy indie pop:

Josh Pyke has been well received on the radio for years now with hits like "No One Wants a Lover", "The Lighthouse Song", "Lines & Palms", "Middle of Hill" & "Memories & Dust" all doing well for Josh.

 Now a while into his career it's time for him to have a real hit, he has worked at it for years, touring, releasing albums and EP's and showing their is still a demand for a hard working Aussie performer and reality TV is not the only way.

So today let's celebrate the career of Mr Josh Pyke:
