The 2020 Triple J Hottest 100 aired 23 January. Allowing the dust to settle here is my first verdict since 2017.
This was the 28th countdown of the most popular songs of the year, as chosen by Triple J listeners.
The Warmest Tunas again (2018 correct with Ocean Alley) picked Heat Waves by English band Glass Animals and Booster Seat by Spacey Jane as the two songs most likely to take first and third place. Both songs respectively placed in first and second on the countdown. Only one off for Spacey Jane.
I personally loved the Glass Animals track but would not pick it as a number one in the Hottest 100!
This years Hottest 100 featured a huge Aussie number of tunes, 66%! Flume was again huge at number 3 whilst Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion's WAP made the top ten at 6.
Lime Cordiale have a large following getting five tunes in the countdown whereas Spacey Jane (aside from getting number 2) had four tunes in the 100, along with Juice WRLD & G Flip getting 4 tunes a piece in.
Powerhouses Tame Impala, Billie Eilish, Joji and Glass Animals all scored three songs in the countdown. Again I loved me some of the 200-101 a little more. With Middle Kids scoring the coveted number 101.
